Acadia University is a public university in Wolfville, Nova Scotia, Canada, known for small classes, a close-knit residential campus and a strong focus on undergraduate education. Founded in 1838, Acadia is one of Canada's older universities and today attracts students from across Canada and dozens of countries.
For international students looking at Acadia University for 2027, however, choosing the university involves much more than checking its ranking. It also explains several topics that are often reported inaccurately online, including Acadia University's acceptance rate, PGWP eligibility and refund policy.

Acadia began in 1838, before Canadian Confederation, making it one of Canada's older degree-granting institutions. 2. Where Is Acadia University? Life in Wolfville, Nova Scotia
Acadia University is in Wolfville, Nova Scotia, in the Annapolis Valley approximately one hour by road from Halifax and Halifax Stanfield International Airport.
Wolfville is very different from Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary or even Halifax. It is a small university town where Acadia forms a major part of everyday life. The town centre has cafés, restaurants, pubs, small shops and local services within walking distance of the university.
The campus itself covers approximately 250 acres. Acadia says students can walk from any residence to their classes in roughly five minutes.
The surrounding Annapolis Valley is known for agriculture, vineyards and views across the Minas Basin and Bay of Fundy. This makes Acadia attractive to students who prefer a quiet university-town experience rather than a large-city campus.
Wolfville may suit you if
- You want a small and highly student-oriented community.
- You prefer being able to walk between residence, classes, the library and town.
- You want a quieter environment for undergraduate study.
- You like nature, coastal scenery and outdoor activities.
Think carefully if
- You specifically want big-city nightlife.
- You expect Toronto-style public transportation.
- You want a very large Indian community immediately around campus.
- You need access to a huge city employment market during every academic semester.

4. Popular Acadia University Programs for International Students
Bachelor of Business Administration
Acadia's Bachelor of Business Administration is offered through the Fred C. Manning School of Business. It combines core business study with opportunities to specialize and participate in co-operative education.
International applicants should pay particular attention to mathematics. Acadia lists Academic or Precalculus Mathematics as a prerequisite for Business Administration.
Computer Science
Computer Science is one of Acadia's strongest options for students interested in software, computing, data, security and technology careers. The program can also be combined with Acadia's nationally accredited co-op system.
Applicants need Precalculus Mathematics or its equivalent.
Applied Science / Engineering
Acadia offers an engineering pathway through its Ivan Curry School of Engineering. Admission requires Precalculus Mathematics and Chemistry, while Physics is recommended.
Students considering this route should understand the exact degree pathway and any later transfer requirements before applying rather than treating it as identical to a conventional four-year engineering degree completed entirely at one institution.
Environmental Science
Acadia's location in the Annapolis Valley and its environmental facilities make Environmental Science and related subjects an important part of the university's academic identity.
Environmental Science applicants need Academic or Precalculus Mathematics and Chemistry.
Psychology
Psychology can be studied through Acadia's science/arts environment and requires Academic or Precalculus Mathematics for entry under the university's current program guidelines.
Nutrition and Dietetics
Students interested in food science, nutrition and health can consider Acadia's Nutrition and Dietetics programs. Mathematics and Chemistry are required for admission.
5. Acadia University Master's and Graduate Programs
Acadia is primarily an undergraduate university, but it does offer a focused range of master's programs as well as doctoral study in education.
Current graduate fields include:
- English
- Political Science
- Social and Political Thought
- Sociology
- Community Development
- Applied Kinesiology
- Education
- Applied Geomatics
- Biology
- Chemistry
- Computer Science
- Environmental Science

- Mathematics and Statistics
- Psychology
- Educational Studies at doctoral level
Does Acadia University offer an MBA?
Acadia does not currently advertise an MBA among its own graduate degree programs. The Fred C. Manning School of Business offers the Bachelor of Business Administration, while its website notes that many BBA graduates later pursue MBA degrees at other institutions.
2026-27 graduate tuition for international students
| Program Type | Tuition | Published 2026-27 Total |
|---|---|---|
| One-year graduate program | CAD 25,444.76 | CAD 27,625.50 |
| Two-year graduate program | CAD 17,726.08 | CAD 19,906.82 per year under the current fee schedule |
Graduate fees vary with the program structure and number of courses. Applicants should therefore use the fee estimate for the exact degree instead of assuming every master's program costs the same amount.
6. Acadia University 2027 Intakes and Application Deadlines
Fall 2027 applications are now open. September is Acadia's primary undergraduate intake and offers the broadest selection of programs.
Acadia also has students beginning studies in the Winter semester. The university's 2026-27 calendar shows orientation for students beginning in January 2027. However, students should not assume every undergraduate degree admits a new cohort in January.
| Important 2027 Date | What It Means |
|---|---|
| Fall 2027 applications | Already open |
| February 28, 2027 | Current Nursing application deadline shown by Acadia |
| March 1, 2027 | Key deadline for entrance scholarship consideration |
7. Acadia University Admission Requirements for International Students
Acadia assesses international applicants according to the education system in the country where they studied.
Undergraduate applicants generally need:
- a recognized secondary-school qualification;
- the minimum academic average specified for their country;
- senior secondary prerequisite subjects required by the chosen degree;
- official academic transcripts;
- proof of English-language proficiency when required; and
- any additional documents required for a particular program.
Acadia's current undergraduate application fee is CAD 40.
One useful difference from many larger universities is Acadia's published turnaround. The university says that once all required documents have been received, an admission decision is normally made within approximately 3 to 4 business days.
8. Acadia University Admission Requirements for Indian Students
This is particularly important because many education websites give a generic Canadian university percentage instead of Acadia's country-specific requirement.
Acadia University's current international admissions page states:
🇮🇳 India Requirement: Students from India require a Higher Secondary Certificate with a minimum 60% overall, subject to meeting the prerequisite subjects for their chosen program.
That 60% is the general country-level threshold, not necessarily the ideal competitive score for every program.
Examples of subject prerequisites
| Program | Important Requirement |
|---|---|
| Business Administration | Academic or Precalculus Mathematics |
| Computer Science | Precalculus Mathematics |
| Applied Science / Engineering | Precalculus Mathematics + Chemistry; Physics recommended |
| Environmental Science | Academic/Precalculus Mathematics + Chemistry |
| Nutrition & Dietetics | Academic/Precalculus Mathematics + Chemistry |
| Mathematics & Statistics | Precalculus Mathematics with at least 70% or equivalent |
For an Indian applicant, this means a student with 60% overall may satisfy Acadia's published country minimum while still failing to qualify for a particular course if the required Grade 12 mathematics, chemistry or other subject is missing.
9. Acadia University IELTS, PTE, TOEFL and Duolingo Requirements
| English Test | Current Acadia Requirement |
|---|---|
| IELTS Academic | 6.5 overall, no individual score below 6.0 |
| PTE Academic | 61 overall, no subscore below 60 |
| Duolingo English Test | 115, no subscore below 90 |
| CAEL / CAEL Online | 70 overall, no subtest below 60 |
| TOEFL taken before Jan. 21, 2026 | 90 iBT, no subtest below 20 |
| TOEFL taken Jan. 21, 2026 or later | Minimum 4.5 overall with no score below 4.5 under the new TOEFL scale |
Acadia also currently accepts Cambridge English, LanguageCert Academic and Oxford Test of English Advanced.
Can Indian students get an English-test waiver?
Acadia states that the language requirement may be waived when a student has studied for three years in an English-medium institution. A waiver should never be assumed automatically; the university ultimately determines whether the applicant has satisfied its English requirement.
10. Acadia University Fees for International Students 2026-2027
For a normal full-time international undergraduate course load of 24 to 33 credit hours, Acadia publishes the following 2026-27 fees:
| Fee | 2026-27 Amount |
|---|---|
| International tuition | CAD 25,172.62 |
| Technology Fee | CAD 627.50 |
| Athletic & Health Fee | CAD 287.00 |
| Campus Renewal Fee | CAD 250.00 |
| Acadia Students' Union Fees | CAD 362.00 |
| ASU Health Plan | CAD 1,592.74 |
| ASU Dental Plan | CAD 165.00 |
| Acadia Access Fee | CAD 10.00 |
| Total | CAD 28,466.86 |
This figure does not include residence, meal plans, books, travel and normal personal living expenses.
Acadia divides fees between the Fall and Winter terms. For the 2026-27 academic year, the university's published payment dates are September 9, 2026 and January 11, 2027.
11. Acadia University Residence, Meal Plans and Living Costs
Residence is a particularly important part of the Acadia experience because Wolfville is a small university town and a large proportion of first-year students live on campus.
Acadia currently states that international students are guaranteed a place in on-campus residence for the duration of their studies.
2026-27 residence costs
Residence prices vary considerably according to building and room type. Acadia's current full-time fee information says rooms begin around CAD 6,450 per academic year, with most rooms costing approximately CAD 7,335 to CAD 8,980. Premium room configurations can cost more than CAD 10,000.
New residence applicants pay a CAD 50 non-refundable residence application fee. When room selection takes place, a CAD 500 non-refundable room deposit is required and is later applied to the residence fee once the student moves in.
Meal plans
| 2026-27 Meal Plan | Academic-Year Cost |
|---|---|
| 5 Day Plan | CAD 6,338 |
| 7 Day Plan | CAD 6,504 |
| 7 Day Plus | CAD 6,837 |
| 7 Day Max | CAD 7,092 |
How much should an international student budget?
A student paying approximately CAD 28,467 in university fees, approximately CAD 7,000-10,000 for residence and roughly CAD 6,300-7,100 for a meal plan can already reach approximately CAD 42,000-45,000 or more for the academic year before flights, books, clothing, mobile service and personal spending.
🏠 Do not confuse residence discounts between intakes: Acadia currently advertises a CAD 2,000-per-year residence discount for international students who started in Fall 2026, renewable for up to four years. The current page does not establish that every new Fall 2027 international student will receive the same discount, so 2027 applicants should confirm before including it in their budget.
12. Acadia University Scholarships for International Students
International undergraduate applicants are automatically considered for an initial entrance scholarship when they apply to Acadia.
Initial scholarship offers can currently range from approximately CAD 500 to CAD 2,500.
Acadia also offers higher-value scholarships and scholar-bursaries. Some awards can be worth as much as CAD 80,000 over four years.
High-value entrance scholarships
| Scholarship | Total Published Value |
|---|---|
| Chancellor's Scholarship | CAD 40,000 – CAD 10,000 per year |
| Board of Governors' Scholarship | CAD 32,000 – CAD 8,000 per year |
| President's Scholarship | CAD 28,000 – CAD 7,000 per year |
Acadia says applicants with a scholarship average of at least 95% are considered for its highest-value scholarships.
For Fall 2027 applicants, March 1, 2027 is an important scholarship deadline. Students should apply for admission early enough to receive access to the scholarship forms and complete them before the deadline.
13. Acadia University Co-op Programs and Work Experience
Acadia's Co-operative Education program is nationally accredited and combines university study with paid, discipline-related work terms.
Co-op is available across a broad range of subjects rather than only Computer Science. Acadia's current information includes students in Business Administration, Computer Science, Community Development, Biology, Nutrition, Arts and other disciplines.
In programs such as Computer Science and Business, a typical undergraduate co-op route involves three four-month work terms or, depending on the program, a longer internship arrangement.
Acadia also has graduate co-op opportunities. For example, MSc Computer Science students can complete two four-month work terms.
Why co-op matters for international students
- It provides Canadian professional experience before graduation.
- Students can build references and professional contacts.
- Work terms can help students test different career paths.
- Paid work can offset part of the cost of university, although it should never be relied upon to fund the entire degree.
- International students gain experience navigating a Canadian workplace before entering the full-time graduate job market.
Participation in co-op is not automatic simply because a student is admitted to Acadia. Students need to satisfy the program's academic requirements and complete the co-op application process.
14. Acadia University Ranking and Acceptance Rate
Acadia University ranking in Canada
For a small undergraduate-focused university, the most meaningful mainstream Canadian comparison is Maclean's Primarily Undergraduate category rather than a global ranking designed heavily around large-scale research output.
| Ranking | Current Position |
|---|---|
| Maclean's 2026 – Primarily Undergraduate Universities | #3 in Canada |
| Nova Scotia within the same category | #1 |
Acadia moved from fourth in the previous Maclean's edition to third in the 2026 ranking and has historically performed strongly in the primarily undergraduate category.
What is the Acadia University acceptance rate?
Acadia University does not publish one official institution-wide acceptance-rate percentage on its current admissions website.
You may see different percentages on third-party education websites. These should be treated as estimates unless the website identifies a verifiable Acadia admissions dataset and year.
An international student's real admission chances depend more on:
- their country-specific minimum academic requirement;
- the chosen program;
- Grade 12 prerequisite subjects;
- English proficiency;
- whether the program has limited seats; and
- the strength and completeness of the application.
15. Is Acadia University PGWP Eligible? DLI, PAL and Study Permit Rules
Acadia University DLI number
IRCC's official Designated Learning Institution list identifies:
🛂 Acadia University DLI: O19391556792 — Wolfville, Nova Scotia. IRCC lists Acadia as a public institution offering PGWP-eligible programs.
Do Acadia degree programs meet the PGWP field-of-study rule?
Canada's current PGWP rules make an important distinction between degree and non-degree programs.
Graduates of a bachelor's degree, master's degree or doctoral degree do not have to satisfy IRCC's eligible-field-of-study requirement.
This is particularly important for Acadia because most international students study in degree programs rather than college-style certificates or diplomas.
Degree graduates applying under the current rules must, however, meet the PGWP language requirement of at least CLB/NCLC 7 in all four language abilities, in addition to the other PGWP eligibility conditions.
Do Acadia students need a PAL?
Undergraduate applicants who are not exempt generally require a Provincial Attestation Letter as part of their study-permit application.
Canada changed the rule for graduate-degree students in 2026. Master's and doctoral students enrolling at public DLIs are now exempt from the PAL/TAL requirement.
How much money must a student show for a Canadian study permit?
For study-permit applications submitted on or after September 1, 2026, IRCC requires a single applicant studying outside Quebec to demonstrate CAD 23,448 for living expenses.
This amount does not include tuition or transportation to and from Canada.
Therefore, an Acadia applicant should not interpret CAD 23,448 as the total amount required for the study-permit application. The applicant must also show sufficient resources for tuition and travel and explain how longer programs will be financed.
16. Acadia University Refund Policy for International Students
Acadia University's refund policy is very different from institutions that simply deduct one fixed international-student administration fee. Acadia uses a percentage-based withdrawal schedule.
The most important rule is that students must officially notify the Registrar's Office in writing. Simply stopping classes does not qualify as an official withdrawal and does not make the student eligible for a fee adjustment.
💰 Refund rule: The earlier you officially withdraw, the larger the tuition adjustment. Acadia's current 2026-27 schedule falls from 100% to 80%, 60%, 40%, 20% and then 0% as the term progresses.
Fall 2026 academic and student-fee refund schedule
| Official Withdrawal Date | Refund Percentage |
|---|---|
| September 9-18, 2026 | 100% |
| September 19-25 | 80% |
| September 26-October 2 | 60% |
| October 3-9 | 40% |
| October 10-16 | 20% |
| After the applicable October deadline | 0% for the Fall term |
Winter 2027 academic and student-fee refund schedule
| Official Withdrawal Date | Refund |
|---|---|
| January 11-20, 2027 | 100% |
| January 21-27 | 80% |
| January 28-February 3 | 60% |
| February 4-10 | 40% |
| February 11-17 | 20% |
| February 18-April 22 | 0% |
Are health and dental fees refundable?
No. Acadia's current withdrawal policy states that ASU health, medical and dental charges are non-refundable when academic fees are adjusted after withdrawal.
What happens to residence fees?
Residence has a separate refund schedule.
A new student who cancels the room reservation before taking occupancy forfeits the CAD 500 room deposit.
For students who have already moved into residence, the amount returned decreases according to the official residence withdrawal schedule. During Fall 2026, the schedule starts with a 90% refund plus a CAD 200 cancellation penalty and gradually falls to zero for the Fall term.
What happens to the meal plan?
Residential meal plans can be adjusted when a student officially withdraws from residence or from the university. The refund is prorated according to the published withdrawal schedule.
Other meal memberships can be refunded only when withdrawing from the university, with a CAD 40 administration fee. Certain bonus amounts and incentives are not refundable.
Does Acadia give a special refund if the study permit is refused?
This is an area where students should be particularly careful.
Acadia's international immigration FAQ does not promise a separate automatic full tuition refund simply because a study permit is refused. Instead, it directs students to Acadia's financial policies and Student Accounts.
Acadia also warns that if a student chooses to move forward with studies without having the study permit in place, that student is responsible for the associated tuition fees.
Therefore, a student whose permit is refused should contact Acadia immediately and formally withdraw rather than assuming the visa refusal itself automatically cancels all financial obligations.
How is an international refund paid?
International students who originally paid through a wire transfer or Convera Global Pay can only have account credits returned to the originating bank account.
Acadia notes that wire-transfer refunds can take up to approximately 30 business days to process.

18. Is Acadia University Good for Indian Students?
Acadia can be an excellent fit for the right Indian student, particularly someone looking for a genuine university degree in a smaller academic community rather than a large metropolitan institution.
Acadia may suit you if
- You want a public Canadian university rather than a private career college.
- You value small class sizes and professor interaction.
- You want a bachelor's degree in Business, Computer Science, Science, Psychology, Environment, Nutrition or another established academic field.
- You want access to co-op in an eligible degree.
- You prefer a quiet university town over Toronto or Vancouver.
- You want on-campus accommodation and value Acadia's international residence guarantee.
- You want a degree that is not affected by the PGWP field-of-study restriction applied to many non-degree programs.
Acadia may not suit you if
- You need a large metropolitan environment.
- You want a one-year college-style postgraduate certificate rather than a university degree.
- You are specifically searching for an MBA at Acadia.
- You expect the lowest possible Canadian tuition.
- You want dozens of different January or May program starts.
- You would prefer a university with tens of thousands of students and hundreds of large research departments.
For most Indian applicants, the real decision should therefore be based on program fit + total four-year cost + scholarship + co-op + campus preference + immigration eligibility, rather than simply comparing university rankings.
