Program overview

Trained as a dentist abroad and planning a practice in Canada one day? The D600 section of St. Clair’s Business diploma is an international-only cohort, labelled International Prep Doctors on the programme page, that leads to the same two-year, four-semester Ontario College Diploma as the regular programme and is delivered at St. Clair’s South Campus in Windsor.

When St. Clair announced its partnership with Prep Doctors in 2021, it described a two-year route for internationally trained dentists that combines business study with preparation for National Dental Examination Board equivalency. The diploma’s own courses give that cohort the commercial knowledge to run a clinic: Accounting Concepts I and II, Managerial Accounting and Financial Management I for the finances, Business Communications I, II and III for writing and presenting in Canadian workplaces, and Introduction To Human Resources, Employment Law I and Organizational Behaviour for hiring and leading a team.

Microeconomics, Macro Economics and Statistical Concepts explain the market a practice operates in, while Introduction To Canadian Business, Introduction To Canadian Marketing and Social Media Marketing show how Canadian firms attract clients. Business Ethics and Business Law cover professional obligations, Basic Spreadsheeting and Money Matters build practical financial skills, and Business Operations I and Planning Business Strategy end the programme with a complete plan for an organisation.

For participants still completing dental equivalency, the diploma supports roles such as dental office manager, clinic administrator, treatment coordinator, patient account representative and practice operations assistant, and later the business side of owning a practice. It suits internationally qualified dental professionals who want Canadian business credentials alongside their licensing journey.

  • Treatment coordinator: Dental and specialist practices
  • Patient account representative: Dental and medical offices
  • Practice operations assistant: Dental service organisations
