Program overview
Precision cuts, foils, a bridal updo and a colour correction in a single salon day: hairstyling rewards speed as much as skill. St. Clair’s Hairstyling (Fast Track) (T914) delivers a two-year Ontario College Diploma in under a year at St. Clair’s South Campus in Windsor, through three consecutive semesters of intensive salon training.
Semester one covers Ethics, Regulation And Policy, Health & Safety I, Professional Development, Client Service, Prep, Procedures & Treatments, Cut Hair I, Style Hair I, Permanent Wave Hair I and Colour & Lighten Hair I. Semester two adds Health & Safety II, Cut Hair II, Style Hair II, Permanent Wave Hair II, Chemically Relax Hair I and Colour & Lighten Hair II. The last semester brings Cut Hair III, Style Hair III, Chemically Relax Hair II, Colour & Lighten Hair III, Hair Additions and Entrepreneurial Skills II, covering advanced cuts on male and female clients, perming, relaxing, colour correction, updos, braiding and extensions.
T914 combines clinical and lab experience with industry field trips and community charity involvement. Its 1,500 hours of in-school training count towards the 3,500 total hours of a Registered Apprenticeship, which you complete before sitting the Certificate of Qualification exam, so the fast-track diploma gives you a substantial head start on becoming a licensed hairstylist. The entrepreneurial courses prepare you to manage a chair, build clientele and eventually run a salon.
Graduates usually start as salon assistants and build a clientele, moving on to hairstylist, colour specialist, salon manager, platform artist, industry sales representative and educator roles, or self-employment in their own salon. The programme suits determined learners who can handle a demanding full-day timetable across three back-to-back terms and want to be working on the salon floor sooner.
