Program overview

The Post-Baccalaureate Diploma in Global Leadership in Sustainable Tourism is a two-year graduate credential with a practicum, aimed at degree holders moving into leadership roles in a tourism industry under real pressure to decarbonise and manage its own impact.

Content covers sustainable destination planning and carrying capacity, tourism policy and governance, environmental and social impact assessment, community-based and Indigenous tourism, responsible operations and certification standards, tourism economics, leadership and change management, applied research methods, and a supervised practicum with an industry or destination-management host.

This has a notably lower English threshold than the rest of CapU’s catalogue — IELTS 6.0 overall rather than 6.5 — which makes it one of the more accessible postgraduate entry points for applicants whose academic record is strong but whose test score sits just short. Note that Duolingo is not accepted for this program.

CapU is a fully public teaching university on Vancouver’s North Shore — a Designated Learning Institution (DLI O19280078102) with university status since 2008. Classes are small, faculty teach rather than delegate to assistants, and tuition sits well below the big Vancouver research universities while the credential carries the same public-institution standing.

Its field maps to CIP 52.0901 (Tourism and travel services management). Important: this is a non-degree credential, so unlike CapU’s bachelor’s programs it is not exempt from the November 2024 PGWP field-of-study restriction — eligibility depends on this CIP field appearing on IRCC’s current eligible list at the time you apply. Confirm the live list with an Apply Study Visa counsellor before committing. Final decisions rest with IRCC.
