Program overview
The Bachelor of Arts with a Major in Psychology is a four-year degree at Capilano University covering the discipline from research design through applied practice.
The core sequence runs introductory psychology, research methods and statistics, biological bases of behaviour, cognition and perception, developmental psychology across the lifespan, social psychology, personality theory, abnormal psychology and psychological disorders, and learning and memory. Upper-year seminars go into health psychology, forensic psychology, counselling foundations and cross-cultural psychology, and students can take directed studies or a research assistantship with faculty — genuinely accessible at CapU’s class sizes in a way it rarely is at large research universities.
The methods and statistics training is the practical payload. Students finish able to design a study, run and interpret quantitative analysis, and write to APA standard, which is what makes psychology graduates employable in research, analytics and health roles rather than only in clinical pathways.
CapU is a fully public teaching university on Vancouver’s North Shore — a Designated Learning Institution (DLI O19280078102) with university status since 2008. Classes are small, faculty teach rather than delegate to assistants, and tuition sits well below the big Vancouver research universities while the credential carries the same public-institution standing.
Its field maps to CIP 42.0101 (Psychology, general). As a bachelor’s degree, graduates are exempt from the November 2024 PGWP field-of-study restriction and may qualify for a Post-Graduation Work Permit of up to three years. Full-time on-campus study and graduation remain the conditions, and final decisions rest with IRCC.

- Mental Health Support Worker — community agencies and health authorities
- Research Assistant / Coordinator — university and health research teams
- Human Resources Advisor — assessment, training and organisational roles
- Behavioural Interventionist — autism and developmental services
- Case Manager — social services and non-profits

Regulated clinical practice in BC requires further graduate qualification — this degree is the entry step, not the licence.
