Program overview

The Bachelor of Environment and Society - Environmental Sciences is a four-year degree that treats environmental problems as measurable systems, and at $19,707 a year it is among the lowest-priced degrees CapU offers international students.

The science core covers ecology and ecosystem processes, hydrology and water quality, soil science, climatology and atmospheric processes, biogeochemical cycling, environmental chemistry and toxicology, conservation biology, and geographic information systems with remote sensing. Quantitative training runs through statistics, environmental modelling and field sampling design. Fieldwork is a genuine advantage of the location — the North Shore mountains, estuaries and coastal forest sit within minutes of campus and function as the teaching laboratory.

The degree pairs that science with the policy and society side: environmental assessment, resource governance, Indigenous rights and land management, and environmental law fundamentals. That combination is the point — environmental hiring in Canada increasingly wants people who can run the analysis and then navigate the regulatory process around it.

CapU is a fully public teaching university on Vancouver’s North Shore — a Designated Learning Institution (DLI O19280078102) with university status since 2008. Classes are small, faculty teach rather than delegate to assistants, and tuition sits well below the big Vancouver research universities while the credential carries the same public-institution standing.

Its field maps to CIP 3.0104 (Environmental science). As a bachelor’s degree, graduates are exempt from the November 2024 PGWP field-of-study restriction and may qualify for a Post-Graduation Work Permit of up to three years. Full-time on-campus study and graduation remain the conditions, and final decisions rest with IRCC.
