Program overview
The Blockchain Design, Development and Integration graduate certificate is an eight-month postgraduate program covering distributed ledger technology and its enterprise applications.
Coursework covers cryptographic foundations and consensus mechanisms, blockchain architectures including public and permissioned networks, smart contract development in Solidity and equivalent languages, decentralised application development, token standards and digital asset design, security auditing of smart contracts, enterprise integration of ledger systems with existing infrastructure, and the regulatory and governance context for distributed systems in Canada.
Two honest notes. At $26,302 this is among the most expensive programs at the North campus, and blockchain hiring is genuinely more volatile than mainstream software development. The transferable value sits in the underlying skills — cryptography, distributed systems, secure development — which hold their worth in security and backend roles regardless of where the ledger market goes.
Humber Polytechnic — formerly Humber College — is Ontario’s largest public college and a Designated Learning Institution (DLI O19376943122). The North campus in Etobicoke is its main site, running technology, engineering, health science, business and skilled trades programs in purpose-built labs and shops rather than lecture halls, with three intakes a year and the deepest employer network in the Greater Toronto Area.
Its field maps to CIP 11.0201 (Computer programming). Important: this is a college credential rather than a degree, so it is not exempt from the November 2024 PGWP field-of-study restriction — eligibility depends on this CIP field appearing on IRCC’s eligible list when you apply. Humber publishes a PGWP-eligible program list with CIP codes; check it, and confirm with an Apply Study Visa counsellor before committing. IRCC makes the final decision.
What it costs per year ยท indicative
Living cost is an estimate; tuition is the institute's published international fee. We confirm exact, current figures before you pay anything.
Do you qualify?
These are the published minimums. Whether your profile fits โ with your marks, gap and budget โ is exactly what a free counsellor check confirms.
Admission requirements
Who can apply (guide for international students):
- Education: A completed 2-year undergraduate diploma or higher from a recognised institution, with a minimum 50% overall.
- Program-specific: A programming background is expected; applicants are assessed on prior computing coursework.
- IELTS: Overall 6.5, no band below 6.0
- TOEFL iBT: Total 88
- PTE Academic: Overall 61
- Duolingo: 125
- GRE/GMAT: Not required.
Application fee $100 CAD, plus an initial tuition deposit of $2,000 CAD — Humber will not request your Ontario Provincial Attestation Letter (PAL) until that deposit clears, so deposit timing drives your study-permit timeline. Admissions run on a rolling basis and popular programs fill months ahead under Canada’s international seat caps. Ask an Apply Study Visa counsellor to confirm current fees, seats and PGWP status before applying.

Career opportunities
Blockchain roles concentrate in fintech, financial services and consulting:
- Blockchain Developer — smart contract and protocol work
- Smart Contract Engineer — decentralised application development
- Backend Developer — the most common realistic destination
- Blockchain Solutions Analyst — enterprise integration projects
- Security Auditor — contract and protocol review
- Fintech Developer — payments and digital asset platforms
- Technical Consultant — advisory and implementation firms
Treat the distributed-systems and security fundamentals as the durable asset here, not the ledger specialism itself.
