Graduate Certificate - Health Informatics

The Health Informatics graduate certificate is a one-year postgraduate program at the intersection of healthcare and information systems.

Content covers health information systems and electronic health records, clinical workflow analysis and process redesign, health data standards and interoperability including HL7 and terminology standards, health data analytics and reporting, privacy legislation and information governance in Canadian healthcare, systems implementation and change management in clinical environments, project management for health IT, and decision support systems.

The value sits in the translation role. Hospitals and health authorities are digitising records, analytics and clinical decision support, and the constraint is rarely technology — it is finding people who understand both clinical workflow and information systems well enough to make an implementation succeed. Applicants from either a health or a computing background can enter and become that bridge.

Humber Polytechnic — formerly Humber College — is Ontario’s largest public college and a Designated Learning Institution (DLI O19376943122). The North campus in Etobicoke is its main site, running technology, engineering, health science, business and skilled trades programs in purpose-built labs and shops rather than lecture halls, with three intakes a year and the deepest employer network in the Greater Toronto Area.

Important: this is a college credential rather than a degree, so it is not exempt from the November 2024 PGWP field-of-study restriction — eligibility depends on this CIP field appearing on IRCC’s eligible list when you apply.
