Program overview

The Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) – Information Systems Engineering is a four-year engineering degree with twelve months of work placement, covering the engineering of computing and network infrastructure.

The program covers engineering mathematics and statistics, digital systems and computer architecture, programming and data structures, operating systems, database systems and data engineering, computer networks and distributed systems, network design and protocol engineering, cloud and virtualisation infrastructure, information security engineering, software engineering practice, systems analysis, and a final-year capstone engineering project.

The distinction from a computer science degree is orientation: this is an engineering program built around designing, building and operating infrastructure at scale, with the mathematics and systems rigour that implies. The twelve-month placement produces a year of Canadian experience before graduation, and as a degree the program sits outside the PGWP field-of-study restriction.

Humber Polytechnic — formerly Humber College — is Ontario’s largest public college and a Designated Learning Institution (DLI O19376943122). The North campus in Etobicoke is its main site, running technology, engineering, health science, business and skilled trades programs in purpose-built labs and shops rather than lecture halls, with three intakes a year and the deepest employer network in the Greater Toronto Area.

Its field maps to CIP 14.0901 (Computer engineering). Because this is a degree, graduates are exempt from the November 2024 PGWP field-of-study restriction that applies to college credentials. Full-time on-campus study and graduation remain the conditions, and IRCC makes the final decision.
