Program overview
The Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) – Mechatronics is a four-year engineering degree with a full twelve months of paid co-op — among the longest work-integrated components of any program at Humber.
Mechatronics integrates mechanical, electrical, control and software engineering into one discipline. The curriculum covers engineering mathematics through differential equations, statics and dynamics, strength of materials and machine design, circuits and electronics, microprocessors and embedded systems, control theory and system modelling, sensors and actuators, industrial robotics and kinematics, programming and real-time systems, automation and PLC engineering, manufacturing systems, and a substantial final-year capstone design project.
Two things make this a strong choice for international students. Twelve months of co-op means graduating with a year of paid Canadian engineering experience already on the resume. And as a degree, it is exempt from the PGWP field-of-study restriction that applies to Humber’s diploma programs — a structurally safer immigration position than an equivalent technology diploma.
Humber Polytechnic — formerly Humber College — is Ontario’s largest public college and a Designated Learning Institution (DLI O19376943122). The North campus in Etobicoke is its main site, running technology, engineering, health science, business and skilled trades programs in purpose-built labs and shops rather than lecture halls, with three intakes a year and the deepest employer network in the Greater Toronto Area.
Its field maps to CIP 14.4201 (Mechatronics, robotics and automation engineering). Because this is a degree, graduates are exempt from the November 2024 PGWP field-of-study restriction that applies to college credentials. Full-time on-campus study and graduation remain the conditions, and IRCC makes the final decision.

Admission requirements
Who can apply (guide for international students):
- Education: Completed Class 12 (10+2) or equivalent with a minimum 65% overall.
- Subject requirements: Grade 12 English, Grade 12 Advanced Functions, Grade 12 Calculus and Vectors, Grade 12 Physics and Grade 12 Chemistry, at 65% or higher.
- IELTS: Overall 6.5, no band below 6.0
- TOEFL iBT: Total 84
- PTE Academic: Overall 58
- Duolingo: 115
- GRE/GMAT: Not required.
Application fee $100 CAD, plus an initial tuition deposit of $2,000 CAD — Humber will not request your Ontario Provincial Attestation Letter (PAL) until that deposit clears, so deposit timing drives your study-permit timeline. Admissions run on a rolling basis and popular programs fill months ahead under Canada’s international seat caps. Ask an Apply Study Visa counsellor to confirm current fees, seats and PGWP status before applying.
