Bachelor of Science - Biomedical Sciences

The Bachelor of Science – Biomedical Sciences is a four-year honours degree with a work placement, covering human biology at molecular through systems level.

The curriculum runs cell and molecular biology, human anatomy and physiology, biochemistry, microbiology and immunology, genetics and genomics, pharmacology, pathophysiology, analytical and instrumental techniques, biostatistics and research methods, and laboratory practice throughout. Upper years add specialised coursework and a research or industry placement, with a final-year capstone research project.

This degree serves two populations. Students planning graduate or professional health study need exactly this prerequisite package with strong laboratory grounding. Students entering the workforce directly move into research, diagnostic and pharmaceutical roles. Either way, as a degree it sits outside the PGWP field-of-study restriction, which distinguishes it sharply from the two-year biotechnology diploma.

The work placement is a graded part of the program, so you finish with documented Canadian experience and a referee rather than only a transcript.

Humber Polytechnic — formerly Humber College — is Ontario’s largest public college and a Designated Learning Institution (DLI O19376943122). The North campus in Etobicoke is its main site, running technology, engineering, health science, business and skilled trades programs in purpose-built labs and shops rather than lecture halls, with three intakes a year and the deepest employer network in the Greater Toronto Area.

Its field maps to CIP 26.0102 (Biomedical sciences). Because this is a degree, graduates are exempt from the November 2024 PGWP field-of-study restriction that applies to college credentials. Full-time on-campus study and graduation remain the conditions, and IRCC makes the final decision.
