Program overview
The Business Administration – Accounting advanced diploma is Humber’s deepest non-degree accounting credential, running three years with an optional paid co-op stream.
The accounting spine runs financial accounting through two levels of intermediate reporting and into advanced financial accounting, alongside cost and managerial accounting, personal and corporate taxation, auditing and assurance, accounting information systems, and finance. Third-year work covers financial statement analysis, internal controls, and a capstone integrating reporting, tax and analysis against a full business case. Students work in professional accounting software throughout.
This is the credential to choose over the two-year diploma if accounting is a genuine career plan rather than a general business entry point. The coursework covers substantially more of the CPA preparatory map, and the co-op option converts study time into Canadian public-practice or industry experience.
The optional co-op stream is worth taking if you are offered it: paid Canadian work experience before graduation improves both hiring outcomes and Express Entry points, and co-op students frequently convert their placement into a full-time offer.
Humber Polytechnic — formerly Humber College — is Ontario’s largest public college and a Designated Learning Institution (DLI O19376943122). The North campus in Etobicoke is its main site, running technology, engineering, health science, business and skilled trades programs in purpose-built labs and shops rather than lecture halls, with three intakes a year and the deepest employer network in the Greater Toronto Area.
Its field maps to CIP 52.0301 (Accounting). Important: this is a college credential rather than a degree, so it is not exempt from the November 2024 PGWP field-of-study restriction — eligibility depends on this CIP field appearing on IRCC’s eligible list when you apply. Humber publishes a PGWP-eligible program list with CIP codes; check it, and confirm with an Apply Study Visa counsellor before committing. IRCC makes the final decision.

Career opportunities
Accounting is one of the most reliably employable fields in the GTA:
- Junior / Staff Accountant — public practice and industry
- Accounting Technician — full-cycle bookkeeping and reporting
- Financial Analyst — planning, budgeting and variance analysis
- Audit Associate — assurance teams in accounting firms
- Tax Associate — personal and corporate tax practice
- Payroll Specialist — a well-paid, in-demand niche
- CPA candidate pathway — after completing degree-level requirements
The co-op stream is the differentiator here — accounting firms recruit heavily from co-op cohorts.
