Program overview
The Honours Bachelor of Aviation Technology is Seneca’s professional pilot degree, combining a four-year honours degree with commercial flight training.
Ground school and academic coursework cover aerodynamics and aircraft systems, meteorology, air law and regulation, navigation, flight planning and performance, human factors and crew resource management, aviation safety management systems, airline operations and economics, and aviation management. Flight training runs alongside it, progressing from private pilot licence through commercial licence, multi-engine and instrument ratings.
Read the fee carefully: $81,716 per year. That is roughly four times any other program at Seneca and reflects aircraft, fuel, instructor and simulator costs — it is not a data error, but it makes this among the most expensive undergraduate programs in Canada. Admission is competitive and typically involves aptitude testing and a Category 1 medical certificate. As a degree it is exempt from the PGWP field-of-study restriction, and co-op builds flight hours toward airline minimums.
Co-op is a built-in part of this degree, so you graduate with paid Canadian work terms already on your resume rather than competing for a first role with no local experience.
Newnham is Seneca’s largest campus, on Finch Avenue East in North York, with its own residence, library, athletic centre and specialised technical labs. It sits on the TTC network with subway connections, and carries the bulk of Seneca’s business, technology and engineering catalogue — which means the widest range of student clubs, services and peers of any Seneca site.
Seneca Polytechnic — formerly Seneca College — is one of Ontario’s largest public colleges and a Designated Learning Institution. Newnham is its biggest campus, on Finch Avenue East in North York, and carries the bulk of Seneca’s business, technology, engineering technology, aviation and applied science catalogue. It has its own residence, a large library and athletic centre, and sits on the TTC network with connections to the subway.
Its field maps to CIP 49.0102 (Airline/commercial pilot and flight crew). Because this is a degree, graduates are exempt from the November 2024 PGWP field-of-study restriction that applies to college credentials. Full-time on-campus study and graduation remain the conditions, and IRCC makes the final decision.
