Honours Bachelor of Commerce - Accounting and Finance (Co-op)

The Honours Bachelor of Commerce – Accounting and Finance is a four-year co-op degree built around the educational requirements of the CPA designation.

The accounting sequence runs introductory financial accounting through intermediate and advanced financial reporting under IFRS and ASPE, management and cost accounting, personal and corporate taxation, auditing and assurance, and accounting information systems. The finance side adds corporate finance, investment analysis, financial modelling and valuation, and risk management, with integrative case work in the final year.

The reason to choose this over Seneca’s accounting diplomas is the CPA pathway: professional accounting designation in Canada requires degree-level study covering specified subject areas, and a diploma cannot satisfy that alone. Co-op adds paid Canadian accounting experience, and as a degree the program is PGWP field-of-study exempt.

All Seneca Honours Bachelor of Commerce degrees share a common business core: financial and managerial accounting, microeconomics and macroeconomics, business mathematics and statistics, marketing principles, organisational behaviour, business law, information systems, operations management and business communication. Specialisation deepens through the upper years alongside paid co-op work terms.

Co-op is a built-in part of this degree, so you graduate with paid Canadian work terms already on your resume rather than competing for a first role with no local experience.

Newnham is Seneca’s largest campus, on Finch Avenue East in North York, with its own residence, library, athletic centre and specialised technical labs. It sits on the TTC network with subway connections, and carries the bulk of Seneca’s business, technology and engineering catalogue — which means the widest range of student clubs, services and peers of any Seneca site.

Seneca Polytechnic — formerly Seneca College — is one of Ontario’s largest public colleges and a Designated Learning Institution. Newnham is its biggest campus, on Finch Avenue East in North York, and carries the bulk of Seneca’s business, technology, engineering technology, aviation and applied science catalogue. It has its own residence, a large library and athletic centre, and sits on the TTC network with connections to the subway.

Its field maps to CIP 52.0301 (Accounting). Because this is a degree, graduates are exempt from the November 2024 PGWP field-of-study restriction that applies to college credentials. Full-time on-campus study and graduation remain the conditions, and IRCC makes the final decision.
