The Hospitality – Hotel and Restaurant Services Management diploma trains supervisors and managers for the accommodation and food service industry over two years.

Students cover front office and reservations systems, housekeeping and facilities operations, food and beverage service and cost control, menu engineering and purchasing, revenue and yield management, hospitality accounting and financial control, sales and marketing for hotels, human resource management in high-turnover environments, event and banquet operations, and health, safety and food handling certification, with a field placement.

Revenue management is the part worth paying attention to. Hospitality careers plateau quickly in operational roles but progress fast for people who can forecast demand, price inventory and defend a P&L — precisely what separates a supervisor from a general manager. Toronto’s hotel sector hires continuously at supervisory level.

The field placement is a graded part of the program, so you finish with documented Canadian experience and a referee rather than only a transcript.

Newnham is Seneca’s largest campus, on Finch Avenue East in North York, with its own residence, library, athletic centre and specialised technical labs. It has its own residence, a large library and athletic centre, and sits on the TTC network with connections to the subway.

Important: this is a college credential rather than a degree, so it is not exempt from the November 2024 PGWP field-of-study restriction — eligibility depends on this CIP field appearing on IRCC’s eligible list when you apply.
