Bachelor of Law (Honours)

The LLB (Hons) is DMU’s qualifying law degree, delivering the foundations of English legal knowledge across three years: contract, tort, criminal law, public and constitutional law, land law, equity and trusts, and EU-derived law, plus legal skills training in research, drafting and advocacy. Leicester De Montfort Law School is among the larger law schools in England, and the degree’s content maps onto the SQE1 functioning legal knowledge assessments that now govern solicitor qualification.

The school’s practice infrastructure is a real differentiator at this level — a replica courtroom for mooting, client-interviewing suites, and a long-standing pro bono and legal-advice tradition through which undergraduates take supervised roles on real matters, building the file-handling experience that paralegal recruiters ask about. Final-year options range across commercial, human rights, criminal and medical law.

Have the qualification conversation early and honestly: Indian students cannot practise in India on an LLB from England without Bar Council of India processes, and practising in England requires the SQE plus qualifying work experience — so the degree is a platform whose value depends on the plan built around it. Paralegal entry pay runs £20,000–£25,000. The honours award carries Graduate Route eligibility at the 18-month post-2027 term, and dependants are excluded on taught study.
