Program overview
A one year graduate certificate in language teaching, covering second language acquisition, lesson planning, classroom methodology, assessment and practical teaching experience.
Teaching English is among the most portable qualifications available anywhere, and education is one of the six sectors on the eligible PGWP field of study list.
Graduate Certificate in Teaching English as a Second Language is taught at Conestoga College, a public Ontario college on the post-secondary institution list. The TESL certificate sits below degree level, so its post-graduation work permit depends on appearing on the IRCC eligible field of study list. The TESL certificate falls inside an eligible sector, which is a good sign, but confirm its CIP code with Conestoga in writing before you pay. If eligible, the TESL certificate supports a work permit of up to one year. Ontario also requires a provincial attestation letter before the TESL certificate can support a study permit application.
Applicants to Graduate Certificate in Teaching English as a Second Language need a completed advanced diploma or equivalent with a minimum of 50 percent. The English requirement is IELTS 7.0 with 7.0 in every band, and tuition for the TESL certificate is recorded at CAD 15,844. Conestoga charges a CAD 100 application fee, and no scholarship is recorded against the TESL certificate. The TESL certificate lists three entry windows, one September start in each of three years. Apply Study Visa manages your the TESL certificate application, the deposit, the offer, the attestation letter and the Canadian study permit as one process.
