Program overview

A one year graduate certificate in financial technology, covering payment systems, digital banking platforms, financial data analysis, blockchain fundamentals, regulatory technology, cyber risk and applied fintech projects.

The Toronto corridor within reach of Kitchener is Canada’s main financial technology market, which makes the location of this campus genuinely relevant to the subject rather than incidental to it.

Graduate Certificate in Financial Technology is taught at Conestoga College Doon campus, a public Ontario college. The financial technology graduate certificate sits below degree level, so a work permit depends on its field of study. Conestoga records the financial technology graduate certificate under CIP 30.7104 and lists it among its PGWP-aligned programmes, which supports a permit of up to one year. IRCC alone decides, so verify 30.7104 against the current eligible list before paying for the financial technology graduate certificate. Ontario also requires a provincial attestation letter before the financial technology graduate certificate can support a study permit.

Entry to Graduate Certificate in Financial Technology is a completed undergraduate diploma or equivalent at 50 percent or above. The English requirement is IELTS 6.5 with no band below 6.0, and tuition for the financial technology graduate certificate is recorded at CAD 15,844. Conestoga charges a CAD 100 application fee, and no scholarship is recorded against the financial technology graduate certificate. The financial technology graduate certificate lists seven entry windows across September, January and May. Apply Study Visa manages your the financial technology graduate certificate application, the deposit, the offer, the attestation letter and the Canadian study permit as one process.

Admission requirements

Who can apply (guide for international students):

  • Education: A completed undergraduate diploma or equivalent, at the percentage stated.
  • English (meet any one): IELTS Academic 6.5 overall with no band below 6.0; TOEFL iBT 88 with 22 in every section; PTE Academic 58 with no component below 10; or the Duolingo English Test at 120.
  • Application and deposit: Conestoga charges a CAD 100 application fee. Confirm the tuition deposit and its refundability in writing before any money is transferred.
  • Scholarship: No scholarship is recorded against this programme. Budget the full tuition.
  • Additional requirement: Business, marketing, media and design subjects generally do NOT appear on the IRCC eligible field of study list that governs post-graduation work permits for college credentials. Obtain written confirmation of the CIP code from Conestoga before paying any deposit.
  • Work rights: Conestoga lists the financial technology graduate certificate as PGWP-aligned under CIP 30.7104, supporting a work permit of up to one year. Verify the code against the IRCC list before paying. A PGWP also requires a language test at CLB 5 in all four abilities for college credentials, taken within two years of applying. This is separate from the English test you need for admission. No dependant work permit.
  • Study permit: Apply Study Visa prepares the attestation letter request, the financial evidence and the Canadian study permit submission with you.

Career opportunities

Typical destinations for graduates:

  • Fintech Analyst: payments and digital banking firms
  • Financial Systems Analyst: banks and insurers
  • Data Analyst: financial services
  • Product Analyst: fintech companies
  • Risk Analyst: lending platforms
  • Business Analyst: financial technology teams

Reality check: this sits between finance and computing, and finance and business subjects both sit outside the six eligible sectors, so verify the CIP code in writing rather than assuming the technology element in the title carries it into an eligible field.
