An eleven month Ontario College Certificate covering boiler and plant systems, thermodynamics, steam and refrigeration plants, codes and safety, with a 480 hour field placement.
This eleven month certificate prepares you for the TSSA 4th Class Power Engineer exams, but it is not on Mohawk’s PGWP list.
The power engineering techniques certificate is taught at Mohawk College’s Stoney Creek Campus for Skilled Trades, home of its Marshall School of Skilled Trades and Apprenticeship, at a public Ontario college founded in 1966. The power engineering techniques certificate does not appear on the PGWP list Mohawk published in February 2026, and IRCC has frozen the eligible list for the rest of 2026. Finishing the power engineering techniques certificate therefore does not lead to a post-graduation work permit, so plan to leave Canada or change status when your study permit ends. Ontario also requires a provincial attestation letter before the power engineering techniques certificate can support a study permit.

Admission requirements
Who can apply (guide for international students):
- Education: Grade 12 or equivalent, at the percentage stated for this programme.
- English (meet any one): IELTS Academic 6.0 overall with no band below 5.5; TOEFL iBT 80; PTE Academic 50 with no band below 43; or the Duolingo English Test at 105 with no band below 100.
- Application and payment: Mohawk charges a non-refundable CAD 100 application fee. Full first semester tuition must be paid before Mohawk issues the letter of acceptance and the provincial attestation letter. If your study permit is refused, Mohawk refunds tuition paid less a CAD 250 administrative fee, provided you apply within 60 days of the programme start date and upload the refusal letter.
- Scholarship: No entrance scholarship is recorded against this programme. Mohawk runs awards and bursaries for enrolled students, but they are competitive and not guaranteed, so budget the full tuition.
- Additional requirement: The 480 hour placement comes in the final semester, and most placements require a driving licence and a vehicle. Grade 12 English and Grade 11 or 12 mathematics are expected, and health and technology streams can require specific sciences.
- Work rights: This programme is NOT on Mohawk’s PGWP list, so it does not lead to a post-graduation work permit. No open work permit for a spouse or partner, since IRCC now limits those to master, doctoral and select professional programmes.
- Study permit: Apply Study Visa prepares the attestation letter request, the financial evidence and the Canadian study permit submission with you.
