Program overview
Can you read the body through your hands and turn what you feel into a treatment plan? Cambrian College’s Massage Therapy is an accelerated Ontario College Advanced Diploma that fits six semesters into 24 months at the Barrydowne campus in Sudbury, and it is accredited by the Canadian Massage Therapy Council for Accreditation (CMTCA).
The early semesters build the science and the touch together through Anatomy & Physiology I and II, Clinical Anatomy I and II, Assessment and Treatment Plan I and II and Massage Skills and Techniques I and II, with Relational Skills and Massage Therapy and Exercise I. Semesters three to five add Pathophysiology I and II for Massage, Neuroanatomy and Physiology, Special Populations I to III, Massage Therapy and Exercise II, Advanced Treatments and Massage Skills and Techniques III to V. The final semester turns to Research in Practice, Career Readiness and Business and Practice Management for Massage Therapists.
From semester three you treat members of the public in Cambrian’s on-campus Massage Therapy Clinic across Clinic I to IV, and three off-site placements take you to settings such as elite sport, expectant parents and infants, long-term care and hospitals, adding up to more than 330 hours of supervised direct care. In the massage therapy lab you also train in complementary modalities including laser, therapeutic ultrasound, TENS, cupping and kinesiology taping. Graduates are eligible to challenge the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario OSCE and MCQ examinations, and up to 51 credits can transfer toward Laurentian University degrees in Kinesiology or Physical and Health Education.
Qualified graduates practise as registered massage therapists in multidisciplinary clinics, sports therapy settings, physiotherapy and chiropractic offices, spas, long-term care and their own private practice. The programme suits caring, physically resilient students with a strong interest in anatomy who can handle an intensive two-year timetable and want to run a practice of their own one day.

Admission requirements
Admission requirements:
- Education: Grade 12 with English and Grade 11 or 12 Biology, minimum 60% in each.
- English: IELTS 6.0 (no band below 5.5), TOEFL iBT 80, PTE 58 or Duolingo 105.
- Also needed: Placement clearance before the clinic.
- PGWP: Yes (CIP 51.3501), up to 3 years. Needs CLB 5.
- Before you apply: CAD 95 application fee. Ontario PAL required. Visa refused? Full refund less CAD 250 if you send the refusal within 10 business days.

Reality check: You can only use the RMT title in Ontario after passing the CMTO OSCE and MCQ exams, and the accelerated 24-month schedule leaves very little break between semesters.
