Program overview
When a company’s network goes down, the person who can trace a routing fault or fix a failed server login becomes the most valued person in the building. Computer Systems Technician - Networking is a two-year Ontario College Diploma, delivered over four semesters at Cambrian College’s Barrydowne campus in Sudbury, that trains you to build, secure and administer business networks and systems.
Semester one covers Introduction to Networking, Windows Client for IT Professionals, IT Essentials and Introduction to Programming. Semester two adds Switching, Routing, and Wireless Essentials, PowerShell, Microsoft Azure Fundamentals, Linux System Administration, Relational Databases and Technical Math and Subnetting. In semester three you study Enterprise Networks, Security, and Automation, Administrating Windows Server Hybrid Core Infrastructure, REST API integration with Python, Advanced Linux Administration and Identity and Access Admin, and semester four brings Microsoft 365 Endpoint Admin, Cybersecurity Operations, Applied Project Management and Technical Communication.
Cambrian teaches through authorised partnerships with Cisco Systems, Red Hat and Microsoft, so you can challenge certifications including CCNA, Cisco CyberOps, AZ900, AZ800, SC300, MD102 and Red Hat Administrator. Labs use tools such as Packet Tracer, Tera Term, PuTTY and Kiwi Syslog Server, with Microsoft software supplied through Azure. Graduates can enter the third year of Cambrian’s Computer Systems Technology - Security programme, continue to the Cybersecurity or IT Business Analysis graduate certificates, or gain advanced standing in the Bachelor of Applied Computing with a 2.5 GPA.
Graduates work as network technicians, systems administrators, IT support analysts, cloud support technicians, Linux administrators and junior security operations analysts. The programme suits methodical troubleshooters who like configuring switches, scripting in PowerShell and Python, and chasing industry certifications alongside their diploma.

Admission requirements:
- Education: Grade 12 with English and Grade 12 Maths, minimum 50%.
- English: IELTS 6.0 (no band below 5.5), TOEFL iBT 80, PTE 58 or Duolingo 105.
- PGWP: Yes (CIP 11.1001), up to 3 years. Needs CLB 5.
- Before you apply: CAD 95 application fee. Ontario PAL required. Visa refused? Full refund less CAD 250 if you send the refusal within 10 business days.
