Clinical Esthetician

Want to be the person a client trusts with a laser treatment or a chemical peel? Lakeland College’s Clinical Esthetician certificate runs over one year at the Lloydminster campus: two semesters of esthetics followed by a seven-week third semester devoted to advanced clinical skin treatments, all taught face to face.

The first ten courses match Lakeland’s Esthetician certificate, from HS 160 Introduction to Esthetics and HS 165 Diseases & Pharmacology to HS 166 Skin Care Lab and HS 168 Advanced Clinical Skin Care & Business Practices. The third semester is what sets this certificate apart: HS 185 Derma Needling, HS 186 Dermaplaning, HS 187 Microdermabrasion, HS 188 Chemical Peels and HS 189 Clinical Laser Technician, which build the judgement and precision needed for medical-grade skin procedures.

Clinical training takes place in the spa classroom, where you work with a multi-functional laser, IPL laser systems, facial machines and derma needling and microdermabrasion tools, then treat members of the public during clinics in the student-led spa. Because clinical work can involve contact with blood and bodily fluids, Lakeland strongly recommends keeping immunizations up to date. Certified estheticians, LPNs and RNs can take the clinical courses on their own through an interest form.

Clinical esthetics graduates find roles as medi-spa estheticians, laser technicians in dermatology clinics, health spa estheticians, resort and cruise line estheticians and product marketing representatives, and some start their own treatment business. The certificate suits detail-focused people who are comfortable with anatomy, strict hygiene and technical equipment, and who want to work alongside skin care professionals in clinics.
