Program overview

Not sure yet whether accounting, marketing or management is your field? Lakeland College’s Business Administration Certificate gives you one year, two semesters and ten core business courses at the Lloydminster campus, with September and January starts, so you can test the whole discipline before choosing a direction.

The fall semester of the Business Administration Certificate covers AC 130 Accounting I, MA101 Business Mathematics, CU 248 Business Computer Applications, EC 111 Microeconomics and CO 131 Communications I. In winter you continue with AC 230 Accounting II, EC 211 Macroeconomics, MK 170 Marketing Principles, CO 231 Communications II and BA 120 Organizational Behaviour. Together they teach bookkeeping, spreadsheet work, economic reasoning, workplace writing and how teams and organisations behave.

These ten certificate courses are the same first year used by all five Lakeland Business Administration diploma majors, so one more year turns the certificate into a diploma in accounting, general business, marketing, real estate appraisal and assessment or small business and entrepreneurship. The University of Regina accepts up to 21 certificate credits towards its BBA or Bachelor of Administration, and Lakeland belongs to the Alberta Transfer and Pathways System. Chamber Connect events link Lloydminster business students with Chamber of Commerce members.

Business Administration Certificate graduates move into entry-level and front-line roles such as customer service representative, call centre agent, dispatcher, office clerk, sales associate and junior bookkeeping assistant in accounting, government, hospitality, marketing and retail settings. It suits school leavers who want a short, practical business year with a clear route to a diploma or degree.
