Business Administration: International Year One (Direct Entry)

Picture yourself in a Beedie business seminar by your second year at SFU. Business Administration in International Year One (UTP Stage II) at Fraser International College (FIC) builds that route from SFU’s Burnaby campus in British Columbia. Through Direct Entry, you begin credit courses in your very first term and complete the year in three terms, roughly twelve months, with intakes in January, May and September.

Your timetable centres on BUS200 Business Fundamentals and BUS216, an introduction to the essentials of business communication, alongside ECON103 Principles of Microeconomics and ECON105 Principles of Macroeconomics. You also take calculus (MATH151 or MATH157), a writing course and electives, which may include BUS251 Financial Accounting I. Direct entrants also complete ILS101 Integrated Learning Skills and a non-credit literacy course in the first term unless an exemption applies. Together these ten courses give you a grounding in how organisations make decisions, how markets behave and how to present ideas in writing.

SFU designs every course you take at FIC, and the university approves each instructor, so the standard matches what first-year Beedie students meet. After ten courses, a cumulative GPA of 3.2 with C- or better in each required course guarantees transfer into second year of the Bachelor of Business Administration. Students between 2.67 and 3.19 can still apply through a broad-based review. The Beedie School, accredited by AACSB and EQUIS, offers an optional co-op programme that alternates study with paid work terms.

With the degree complete, graduates move into roles such as financial analyst, marketing coordinator, business analyst, human resources advisor, supply chain analyst or project coordinator. This route suits students who already meet FIC’s standard English level and want the shortest path from Grade 12 to a Canadian business degree, with a Grade 12 average of 75% across four subjects.
