Program overview

The Bachelor of Social Work - Honours at Algoma University's Brampton campus is a four-year Honours bachelor's degree that gives you a strong, career-focused education in this field.

You will train to support individuals, families and communities facing social challenges — studying human development, social justice, counselling and interviewing skills, social policy and anti-oppressive, culturally grounded practice — with supervised field placements that give real, hands-on experience. Algoma's community-rooted Special Mission gives the program a strong social-justice focus. Graduates pursue careers in social work, child and family services, mental health and addictions, community agencies and advocacy, and the degree supports registration and graduate study in social work.

Studied at Algoma's Brampton campus, it combines close faculty mentorship with hands-on learning, and being a public-university degree it supports Post-Graduation Work Permit eligibility for graduates who plan to build a career in Canada.

Graduates are well placed for roles such as Social Worker, Case Worker / Case Manager and Community Support Worker, gaining a mix of theory, applied projects and real Canadian experience that employers value.

Beyond subject knowledge, you will build the communication, teamwork, research and problem-solving skills that transfer across careers and set you up for long-term success in Canada and around the world.
