Program overview
The Bachelor of Arts - Anishinaabe Studies - General at Algoma University's Sault Ste. Marie campus is a four-year Honours bachelor's degree that gives you a strong, career-focused education in this field.
You will explore Anishinaabe history, culture, worldview, governance and contemporary issues — a distinctive program grounded in Algoma's Special Mission of cross-cultural learning and its location on a site of deep Indigenous significance. You will build cultural knowledge, research and analytical skills and cross-cultural competence. Graduates work in Indigenous programming, community and cultural work, policy and advocacy, education and heritage, and the degree supports careers and graduate study in Indigenous studies and beyond.
At Algoma's Sault Ste. Marie campus you benefit from small classes, strong scholarships and individual attention, and as a public-university degree the program keeps you eligible for a Post-Graduation Work Permit after you graduate.
Graduates are well placed for roles such as Indigenous Programs Coordinator, Cultural / Community Worker and Policy / Advocacy Worker, gaining a mix of theory, applied projects and real Canadian experience that employers value.
Beyond subject knowledge, you will build the communication, teamwork, research and problem-solving skills that transfer across careers and set you up for long-term success in Canada and around the world.
