Program overview
Picture your own app, a 3D scene or an augmented reality experience running on a phone in someone’s hand. Assiniboine College’s Web and Interactive Development diploma teaches you to build all three over two years at the Victoria Avenue East campus in Brandon, with each class starting in September.
Year one lays down design and code together: Programming Fundamentals, Front-End Development and Back-end Development sit beside Art & Design Fundamentals, Typography & Brand, Studio Skills and Software Skills, while Interactive Communications and Storytelling & Content Writing teach you to plan what a site says. Year two moves into Interactive Development, Mobile App Design Development, User Experience Design, 3D Development, XR Solutions, Data Visualization and Online Management Systems. Business & Entrepreneurship 1 and Business & Entrepreneurship 2 cover pricing, clients and freelancing.
The second year is built around two project courses, Integrative Capstone 1 and Integrative Capstone 2, in which students design and ship complete interactive products. It then ends with a Practicum: an unpaid eight-week, 320-hour placement in a related industry firm, which requires a cumulative weighted GPA of 2.0 or higher. Students bring their own laptop that meets the programme’s technology specifications, since design, 3D, XR and coding work runs on each student’s own machine throughout the diploma.
Graduates of Web and Interactive Development work as web developers, front-end developers, mobile app developers, AR and VR developers and game developers, or build their own client base as freelance designers. The diploma suits students who enjoy both drawing and coding and who want a portfolio of real sites, apps and XR projects by the time they graduate.

Admission requirements:
- Education: Grade 12 with English (65%).
- English: IELTS 6.5 (no band below 6.0), TOEFL iBT 81, PTE 55 or Duolingo 120.
- PGWP: Yes (CIP 11.1004), up to 3 years. Needs CLB 5.
- Before you apply: CAD 200 application fee. CAD 4,000 tuition deposit, refunded if your study permit is refused and you send proof within six weeks. Manitoba PAL required.
