Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning

Ready to build the systems behind image recognition, chatbots and generative AI? Cambrian College’s Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning programme is a two-semester Ontario College Graduate Certificate at the Barrydowne campus in Sudbury that can be completed in as little as eight months. It is the only programme of its kind in northern Ontario and is aimed at graduates of programming, software engineering, computer science, data analytics, mathematics or statistics.

Semester one lays mathematical and computational foundations through Programming for AI, Math and Algorithms for AI, AI and Data Foundations and Full Stack Data Science, then moves into Machine Learning, Deep Learning and AI Cloud Frameworks. Semester two applies those models to real problems: Image Recognition, Natural Language Processing and Generative AI and Large Language Models teach the techniques behind computer vision and text generation, while AI Deployment and MLOps covers putting trained models into production. AI Ethics and Emerging Technologies in AI complete the year.

Cambrian gives you hands-on experience in the training, validation and testing phases of AI and ML systems, finishing with the AI Applied Project, a culminating project in semester two. You bring a Windows laptop with at least 24 GB of RAM and work in Python with Anaconda or Miniconda, Jupyter Notebook, Visual Studio Code and Git. Graduates of the certificate may receive credit toward further college or university study through Cambrian’s college and university agreements.

Graduates may work as AI developers, machine learning engineers, data scientists, AI solutions architects, NLP engineers, computer vision specialists or MLOps engineers, helping public and private organisations identify patterns and support decisions. The programme suits computing or maths graduates who want a fast, applied route into machine learning and generative AI work.
