Could you be the person an organisation calls when its network is under attack? Cambrian College’s Cybersecurity programme is a two-semester Ontario College Graduate Certificate, completed in one year at the Barrydowne campus in Sudbury, for graduates who already hold a diploma or degree in computer science, IT or a related field. It trains you to keep computer systems and wireless networks safe, covering infrastructure security configuration, risk management, cybersecurity policy and the legal and ethical side of the industry.

The first semester builds foundations with Fundamentals of Information Technology, Intro to Cybersecurity, CSEC Infrastructure and Network Defense. Alongside the technical courses you study CSEC Policies and Compliance, Business Contingency Planning and Comm for Cybersecurity Prof, so you can write security policy and explain risk to managers as well as configure defences. Semester two turns to attack and investigation: Ethical Hacking, Malware Dev and Analysis and IT Security Forensics show how attackers work and how to trace them, while CSEC Tool Development, Sensitive Data Protection and Security Operations prepare you for the daily work of a security operations team.

Cambrian is a Palo Alto Cybersecurity Academy, and the Cybersecurity curriculum is aligned to the National Initiative for Cybersecurity Education (NICE) framework. The Cybersecurity Capstone in semester two asks you to solve a real-world security problem from start to finish, giving you a finished project to discuss with employers. Graduates can challenge Palo Alto Networks industry certifications, including PCNSA and PCNSE, and the programme runs in a flex, full-time format at Barrydowne.

Graduates move into roles such as information systems security analyst, cybersecurity consultant, IT security specialist, network technician and network administrator in businesses, government offices, hospitals and IT service firms. The Cybersecurity certificate suits IT or computing graduates who want one focused year of security training built around hands-on defence, ethical hacking and forensics work.
