Can you turn a messy spreadsheet into a story a manager will act on? Cambrian College’s Data Analytics programme is a three-semester Ontario College Graduate Certificate, completed in one year at the Barrydowne campus in Sudbury, and you can study full-time or part-time, in person or fully online. It is designed for diploma or degree holders who want to lead data-informed decision-making in any industry.

Semester one covers Foundations of Data Analytics, Data Collection and Ethics, Programming for Analytics, GIS and Data Visualization, Structured Data Management and Statistics for Data Analytics. Semester two builds on those with Machine Learning Foundations, Dashboards and Data Modelling, Storytelling with Data, Connected Data, Data Mining and Mkt Analytics and Advanced Stats for Analytics. This mix of computer science, databases, research methods, marketing and communication reflects Cambrian’s focus on data storytelling: simplifying complex data so decision-makers grasp the insight without getting lost in technical detail.

You train on the tools analytics teams rely on, including advanced ArcGIS, Power BI, Tableau, Python, R, SQL databases with MySQL Workbench, and Microsoft Excel. In the third semester you choose between the Analytics Capstone and a seven-week Placement; recent placements include building a programme costing tool for Cambrian College and creating dashboards with Metabase and the Funifier API for Profundus Enterprises Inc. Networking activities during the year connect Data Analytics students with working professionals.

Graduates work as data analysts, business analysts, business intelligence consultants, database administrators, data scientists and data storytellers in technology, healthcare, government and business. The certificate suits graduates from business, science or IT backgrounds who want practical analytics and dashboard skills in one year.
