Program overview
The Bachelor of Business Administration is Capilano University’s flagship four-year business degree, taught at the North Vancouver campus with three intakes a year.
The first two years build the common business core: financial and managerial accounting, micro and macroeconomics, business mathematics and statistics, marketing, business law, organisational behaviour, information systems and business communication. Upper years then specialise — students choose a stream from accounting, finance, marketing, human resource management or international business, and take advanced coursework in strategy, operations, business analytics and a capstone that runs a live organisational problem end to end.
CapU teaches business as applied practice: case competitions, client-facing consulting projects, industry guest faculty and small seminar classes rather than 300-seat lectures. The accounting stream is mapped to CPA Canada prerequisite requirements, so graduates intending to pursue the CPA designation leave with the coursework already banked instead of paying for post-degree bridging.
CapU is a fully public teaching university on Vancouver’s North Shore — a Designated Learning Institution (DLI O19280078102) with university status since 2008. Classes are small, faculty teach rather than delegate to assistants, and tuition sits well below the big Vancouver research universities while the credential carries the same public-institution standing.
Its field maps to CIP 52.0201 (Business administration and management). As a bachelor’s degree, graduates are exempt from the November 2024 PGWP field-of-study restriction and may qualify for a Post-Graduation Work Permit of up to three years. Full-time on-campus study and graduation remain the conditions, and final decisions rest with IRCC.

Career opportunities
A general business degree from a public BC university opens the widest employment door in Metro Vancouver:
- Financial Analyst — banking, credit unions and corporate finance teams
- Accountant / CPA candidate — the stream is CPA-prerequisite mapped
- Marketing Coordinator to Manager — brand, digital and product roles
- Human Resources Advisor — the CPHR designation pathway
- Operations / Supply Chain Analyst — logistics-heavy Port of Vancouver economy
- Business Development Manager — sales and partnership roles
- Entrepreneur — CapU runs an active student venture ecosystem
Business is one of the safest degree choices for PGWP-to-PR planning because the role range is broad and hiring is not tied to a single sector.
