Program overview
The Bachelor of Kinesiology is a four-year degree in human movement science, structured as both a practice qualification and a prerequisite route into graduate health programs.
The science core runs human anatomy and physiology, biomechanics, motor control and learning, exercise physiology, nutrition and metabolism, and research methods with statistics. Applied coursework covers exercise prescription and programming, injury prevention and assessment, rehabilitation principles, ergonomics, adapted physical activity for populations with disabilities, sport psychology and health promotion. Laboratory work is substantial — students take their own measurements, run assessment protocols and interpret physiological data.
Two audiences are served here. Students heading for physiotherapy, occupational therapy or chiropractic graduate programs need exactly this prerequisite package with a strong GPA. Students entering practice directly can register as kinesiologists in BC and work in rehabilitation, ergonomics and conditioning. The reference and letter-of-interest requirement at admission reflects that the program screens for genuine intent, not just grades.
CapU is a fully public teaching university on Vancouver’s North Shore — a Designated Learning Institution (DLI O19280078102) with university status since 2008. Classes are small, faculty teach rather than delegate to assistants, and tuition sits well below the big Vancouver research universities while the credential carries the same public-institution standing.
Its field maps to CIP 31.0505 (Kinesiology and exercise science). As a bachelor’s degree, graduates are exempt from the November 2024 PGWP field-of-study restriction and may qualify for a Post-Graduation Work Permit of up to three years. Full-time on-campus study and graduation remain the conditions, and final decisions rest with IRCC.

Career opportunities
Kinesiology supports both direct practice and further professional study:
- Kinesiologist — the registered practice role in BC
- Exercise Physiologist — cardiac and clinical rehabilitation
- Rehabilitation Assistant — physiotherapy and occupational therapy support
- Strength and Conditioning Coach — sport and performance settings
- Ergonomics Consultant — workplace injury prevention
- Health Promotion Officer — public health and community programs
- Graduate study pathway — physiotherapy, occupational therapy and chiropractic
Physiotherapy and occupational therapy in Canada require a master’s degree — this is the prerequisite undergraduate route, not the licence itself.
