Conestoga College’s Doon campus runs 131 programmes open to international students, 113 of them asking just 50 percent, with three intakes a year and no GMAT anywhere.

It also has a fact that decides everything else: 63 of those 131 programmes are not on Conestoga’s own list of PGWP-aligned programmes. Nearly half this catalogue does not lead to a Canadian work permit.

We checked every programme against the CIP code Conestoga publishes for it. No other page competing for this search does that.

🎓 Quick Fact: Doon is in Kitchener, not Waterloo. It is Conestoga’s first and largest campus, at 299 Doon Valley Drive, just off Highway 401. The separate Waterloo campus is a different location with a different programme list.

2. The 63 Programmes That Do Not Lead to a Work Permit

Since 1 November 2024, graduates of programmes below bachelor level must have studied in an eligible field of study to qualify for a post-graduation work permit. Eligibility is decided by CIP code, and IRCC has frozen the list for the whole of 2026.

Conestoga publishes the CIP code for every programme it considers aligned. We checked all 131 Doon programmes against that list. Sixty three are absent from it.

⚠️ You cannot work this out from the subject. These pairs are all at the same campus: Social Media Marketing qualifies, Business Marketing does not. Therapeutic Recreation qualifies, Recreation and Sport Administration does not. Fitness and Health Promotion qualifies, Health Office Administration does not. Advanced CNC Manufacturing qualifies, Process Quality Engineering does not. Only the published code decides.

The largest unaligned clusters at Doon are:

  • General business, including the business diploma, both business administration advanced diplomas, finance, marketing and advertising
  • All four office administration routes, general, executive, legal and medical
  • All three game routes and three of four animation routes
  • All three power engineering routes, despite being a certified Ontario trade
  • Both policing routes and pre-service firefighting
  • Clinical Research and Regulatory Affairs, despite serving the health sector
  • Cloud Data Management, the one computing exception
This does not make them bad programmes. They are taught to a professional standard and lead to real work. If you plan to return home after graduating, the concern does not apply to you at all. It only matters if your plan depends on staying in Canada to work.

3. Which Doon Programmes Do Qualify

Area Examples that are aligned
All 12 degrees Exempt from the rule entirely, whatever the subject
Health Nursing bridging, Pharmacy Technician, Massage Therapy, Hearing Instrument Specialist, OTA and PTA, Personal Support Worker, both pre-health pathways
Computing Web Development, Computer Systems Technician, Network Technical Support, Interaction Design, Virtual Reality Production
Trades Advanced CNC Manufacturing, Machining for Manufacturing, all three woodworking routes, Renewable Energy, Carpentry
Education and social Early Childhood Education, Educational Support, Social Service Worker, Community Services Management
Surprises Social Media Marketing, eCommerce Management, Real Estate Development, Broadcasting Performance, Advanced Video Content Creation, both veterinary routes
⚠️ Always get the CIP code in writing. Conestoga’s list is the best available guide, but IRCC makes the final decision and checks the code your programme is registered under. Ask the college for your programme’s CIP code in writing and check it against the current IRCC eligible list before paying any deposit.

4. All 131 Programmes by Level

Level Count Entry from
Graduate certificates 47 A completed diploma or degree
Diplomas, two year 37 Grade 12
Certificates, one year 25 Grade 12
Bachelor degrees 12 Grade 12 at 65 or 70 percent
Advanced diplomas, three year 9 Grade 12
English language studies 1 No test, no minimum marks

By length, 66 run one year and 65 run two or more. That matters: a one year credential supports a work permit of up to one year, while two years or more supports up to three. Browse every programme with its fee and CIP position on our Conestoga Doon programmes and fees page.

5. Why the 12 Degrees Matter More Than Anything Else Here

Degrees are exempt from the field of study rule entirely. Any subject qualifies. At Doon that exemption creates a striking pattern.

Field Degree College routes in the same field
Animation Exempt 3 routes, none aligned
Public Relations Exempt 2 routes, neither aligned
Business Exempt Most business diplomas not aligned
Financial services Exempt All finance routes not aligned
Design Exempt Decorating and foundations not aligned
Security and crime Exempt Both policing routes not aligned

Degrees ask 65 percent, or 70 for three of them, and cost CAD 15,961. Several include paid co-op. If you want business, design, animation or security and you intend to stay in Canada, the degree is not just the better option here, it is close to the only one.

6. Admission Requirements for Indian Students

You need Programmes Which
50 percent 113 Most diplomas, certificates and graduate certificates
65 percent 8 Most degrees
70 percent 9 Technical certificates and three degrees
60 percent 1 Advanced Police Studies

There is no GMAT or GRE requirement anywhere, and the application fee is CAD 100 on every programme.

7. English Language Requirements

Band Programmes IELTS TOEFL PTE Duolingo
Higher 71 6.5, none below 6.0 88 58 120
Standard 58 6.0, none below 5.5 80 53 110
Speaking 8.0 2 6.5, speaking 8.0 88 or 93 58 120
No PTE or Duolingo 1 6.5 91 Not accepted Not accepted
No test at all 1 The ESL programme
⚠️ Three programmes have unusual requirements. Massage Therapy and Hearing Instrument Specialist require IELTS speaking 8.0, far above the usual 6.0, because treatment depends on patient conversation. Hearing Instrument Specialist also needs PTE speaking 84. Pharmacy Technician accepts neither PTE nor Duolingo. And Journalism is the only programme using Duolingo 115.

8. The Second Language Test Nobody Mentions

⚠️ Passing the admission English test is not the end of it. Applying for a post-graduation work permit requires a second language test, taken within two years of applying: CLB 5 in all four abilities for college credentials, or CLB 7 for degree graduates. This requirement catches people out because it arrives years after the admission test they already passed, and no competing page covering this campus mentions it.

9. Conestoga Doon Fees 2026

Annual tuition (CAD) Programmes Typically
11,000 1 The ESL programme, cheapest here
14,588 60 The most common. Most diplomas and certificates
15,844 39 Most graduate certificates
15,961 12 All 12 degrees, and remarkable value given the exemption
21,882 4 Power engineering and accelerated accounting
23,766 5 The dearest. Nursing bridging, IT Business Analysis, Health Care Administration, Cloud Data Management
The degrees are the best value at this campus by a distance. At CAD 15,961 they cost barely more than a graduate certificate at 15,844, run longer, include co-op, and are exempt from the field of study rule. Meanwhile Cloud Data Management costs 23,766 and is not aligned at all.

10. Cost of Living in Kitchener

Item Approximate monthly cost (CAD)
Shared room 700 to 800
One bedroom apartment 1,400 and above
Campus residence From around 1,000, not guaranteed
Food, transit and miscellaneous 500 to 700
Realistic annual total 15,600 to 19,200

Kitchener-Waterloo is materially cheaper than Toronto or Vancouver, which is a large part of why the region draws heavy Indian enrolment. Campus residence at Doon holds roughly 800 beds and books up early, so most international students rent privately in Doon, Kitchener or Cambridge.

Budget separately for the Guaranteed Investment Certificate supporting your study permit, and for winter clothing in your first year.

11. Three Intakes a Year

Intake Programmes offering it
September 125 of 131
January 76
May 48

Across 546 recorded entry windows, missing a deadline usually costs four months rather than a year. Conestoga admits on a rolling basis until seats fill, so apply four to six months ahead.

12. Co-op and Placements

Nineteen programmes include a co-op option and 42 include a field or clinical placement, so around 47 percent of this catalogue has a work component. Canadian co-op is normally paid; field placements usually are not.

Take the co-op where it is offered. Canadian employers weigh Canadian work experience heavily, and co-op is the most reliable way to get it before graduating. Most degrees here include it. Confirm whether a placement is guaranteed or competitive before relying on it.

13. Can You Bring Your Family?

⚠️ No programme at this campus supports a spousal open work permit. Canada’s 2024 rules restrict those to master degrees of 16 months or longer, doctorates and certain professional programmes. None of the 131 programmes here is a master degree or doctorate. If bringing your spouse on an open work permit is essential, look at Canadian university master programmes instead.

14. Careers Closed Without Canadian Status

Programme The problem
Police Foundations and Advanced Police Studies Canadian police services require citizenship or permanent residence. Both are also unaligned, so neither the job nor the permit is open
Pre-Service Firefighter Municipal fire services require citizenship or permanent residence. Also unaligned
Public Service Federal and most provincial posts prefer or require citizens and permanent residents
Nursing Leadership Does not license you to practise nursing. College of Nurses registration is entirely separate
Immigration and Refugee Case Management Practising as a consultant requires licensing with the College of Immigration and Citizenship Consultants
Interior Decorating Decorating is not interior design. Registration requires an accredited degree, which Conestoga also offers
Financial Planning routes Giving financial advice requires provincial licensing, assessed separately

15. What Other Conestoga Pages Get Wrong

Claim you will see The actual position
“Doon Campus fees revolve around CAD 20,900 The most common fee is CAD 14,588, paid by 60 of 131 programmes. The single figure overstates most of the catalogue by around CAD 6,000
“Diploma and certificate programmes: CAD 15,026 Only two programmes here are priced at 15,026. The real range is 11,000 to 23,766
Nothing about which programmes fail the field of study test 63 of 131 are not on Conestoga’s aligned list. No competing page identifies a single one of them
Nothing about the CLB language test A PGWP needs CLB 5 for college and CLB 7 for degrees, within two years of applying
Doon described as a Waterloo campus Doon is in Kitchener. Conestoga runs a separate Waterloo campus with a different programme list
Student numbers of 40,000 college-wide Accurate for the college, but it says nothing about this campus, which is one of eight

16. How to Apply to Conestoga Doon

Applying through the Apply Study Visa portal is free. Conestoga charges CAD 100, payable to the college regardless of outcome.

  1. Decide your endpoint first. If you intend to work in Canada afterwards, that removes 63 of the 131 programmes before you look at anything else.
  2. We get the CIP code in writing for your chosen programme and check it against the current IRCC eligible list before you pay a deposit.
  3. Consider the degree route. At CAD 15,961 with full exemption, it is frequently the better answer at this campus.
  4. Upload your documents online. We check band scores, not just the overall, and confirm your test is accepted.
  5. We submit and guide you through the offer, deposit, provincial attestation letter, GIC and Canadian study permit as one process.

The three costly mistakes here are choosing an unaligned programme expecting a work permit, assuming a graduate certificate is exempt from the field of study rule, and not knowing about the CLB test until it is too late. Each is avoidable with one conversation. Check your eligibility free, or read our Canada study permit guide.

17. Is Conestoga Doon Good for Indian Students?

For the right programme, yes. 113 programmes accept 50 percent, three intakes give real flexibility, Kitchener is far cheaper than Toronto, and the 12 degrees at CAD 15,961 are excellent value given their exemption.

The counterweight is blunt: 48 percent of this catalogue does not lead to a work permit, and nothing on the college website warns you at the point of choosing.

It suits you if

  • Your Grade 12 or diploma marks are around 50 to 70 percent.
  • You can meet 65 percent for a degree, which is the strongest route here.
  • You want health, computing, trades or education, where most programmes are aligned.
  • You need a January or May start.
  • You want paid co-op or a clinical placement.
  • You want a calmer, cheaper city with the Toronto-Waterloo tech corridor nearby.

It does not suit you if

  • You want business, office administration, games, animation or policing at college level and intend to stay in Canada.
  • You need a spouse to receive an open work permit.
  • You want a master degree. This campus offers none.
  • You cannot reach CLB 5, or CLB 7 for a degree, by the time you apply for the permit.
  • You want guaranteed campus housing. Residence is limited and books early.

18. Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Q: Are all Conestoga Doon programmes PGWP eligible?

No. 68 of 131 are. 63 are not. All 12 degrees are exempt from the field of study rule. For everything else, eligibility depends on the CIP code appearing on IRCC’s list, and Conestoga publishes which of its programmes are aligned.

Q: Is Doon campus in Kitchener or Waterloo?

Kitchener, at 299 Doon Valley Drive. Conestoga runs a separate Waterloo campus with a different and much smaller programme list. Several websites confuse the two.

Q: Does a graduate certificate exempt me from the field of study rule?

No. Despite the name, a graduate certificate sits below bachelor level for IRCC purposes. Only bachelor, master and doctoral degrees are exempt. Doon has 47 graduate certificates and many are not aligned.

Q: What are Conestoga Doon fees for international students?

CAD 11,000 to 23,766 a year. The most common figure is 14,588, paid by 60 programmes. All 12 degrees cost 15,961.

Q: What marks do I need for Conestoga Doon?

Fifty percent on 113 of the 131 programmes. Degrees ask 65 percent, nine programmes ask 70, and Advanced Police Studies asks 60.

Q: What IELTS score does Conestoga Doon require?

6.5 overall on 71 programmes, and 6.0 with no band below 5.5 on 58. Two require speaking 8.0, and one accepts neither PTE nor Duolingo.

Q: What is the CLB requirement for a PGWP?

A second language test taken within two years of applying for the permit: CLB 5 in all four abilities for college credentials, CLB 7 for degree graduates. This is separate from your admission English test.

Q: How many intakes does Conestoga Doon have?

Three: September on 125 programmes, January on 76, and May on 48, across 546 entry windows. Missing a deadline usually costs four months rather than a year.

Q: Can I bring my spouse to Conestoga Doon?

Not on an open work permit. Canada’s 2024 rules restrict those to master degrees of 16 months or longer and doctorates. No programme at this campus is a master degree.

Q: Which Doon programmes should I avoid if I want to stay in Canada?

At college level: general business, all four office administration routes, all three game routes, three of four animation routes, all three power engineering routes, both policing routes, and firefighting. Each has an aligned or degree alternative worth comparing.

Q: Does Conestoga Doon offer co-op?

Yes. 19 programmes include co-op and 42 include a field or clinical placement. Canadian co-op is normally paid; field placements usually are not. Most degrees include co-op.

Q: Does Apply Study Visa charge for Conestoga applications?

No. Counselling, application review and submission are free, including the CIP code check and English test compatibility check. Conestoga’s own CAD 100 fee still applies. We are paid by the institutions we work with, which is exactly why we will tell you plainly when a programme carries a risk.

Confirm before you pay. Get the CIP code for your programme in writing and check it against the current IRCC eligible list, since IRCC decides and not the college. Confirm whether any co-op place is guaranteed. Confirm that no programme here supports a spousal open work permit. Plan for the CLB test before you graduate. Programme details cover all 131 Doon campus programmes open to international applicants and were checked in September 2026. IRCC rules, tuition and living costs are revised regularly.
