Conestoga College’s Guelph campus runs 31 programmes for international students, 27 of them asking just 50 percent, with fees from CAD 14,588 and no GMAT anywhere.
It is also the only Conestoga campus where more programmes fail the work permit test than pass it. Sixteen of the 31 are not on Conestoga’s own PGWP-aligned list.
Worse, one widely read page advises Indian postgraduate applicants to choose Business Analytics specifically for the work permit. At Guelph, that programme is not aligned. Section 3 explains.
🎓 Quick Fact: Guelph is Conestoga’s motive power campus. Six of the 31 programmes are diesel and automotive trades. But only the two heavy duty equipment routes are PGWP-aligned. Automotive and truck-and-coach are not, despite being certified Ontario trades taught in the same workshops.

1. About Conestoga College Guelph Campus
Conestoga is a public polytechnic founded in 1967. Guelph is one of its smaller campuses, built around motive power trades, analytics and sustainability rather than offering a general programme list.
| Detail | Information |
|---|---|
| Institution | Conestoga College, public polytechnic |
| Founded | 1967 |
| Campus | Guelph, Ontario |
| Programmes for international students | 31 at this campus, no degrees |
| PGWP eligible | 15 of 31. 16 are not |
| Application fee | CAD 100 on every programme |
| GMAT or GRE | Not required anywhere |
| Tuition | CAD 14,588 to 23,766 a year |
| Entry bar | 50 percent on 27 of 31 |
| Intakes | September, January and May |
2. The Motive Power Split
Six of the 31 programmes here are diesel and automotive trades. All six are certified Ontario trades taught in the same workshops by the same staff. Conestoga aligns two of them.
| Programme | Length | Work permit |
|---|---|---|
| Motive Power Technician, Heavy Duty Equipment | 2 years | Aligned, 47.0302 |
| Motive Power Techniques, Heavy Duty Equipment Repair | 1 year | Aligned, 47.0302 |
| Motive Power Technician, Automotive Service | 2 years | Not aligned |
| Motive Power Technician, Truck and Coach | 2 years | Not aligned |
| Motive Power Fundamentals, Automotive Repair | 1 year | Not aligned |
| Motive Power Techniques, Truck and Coach Repair | 1 year | Not aligned |
If motive power is your field and staying in Canada matters, the heavy duty equipment routes are the ones to apply for. Heavy equipment technicians are among the harder trades for Canadian employers to fill, and the two year diploma carries an optional co-op.
3. The Business Analytics Warning
A widely read page advises Indian postgraduate applicants that they overwhelmingly pick the IT and Business Analytics graduate certificates because the longer duration unlocks a full three year work permit.
| Analytics certificate | Entry | Fee | Work permit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Predictive Analytics | 70 percent | CAD 15,844 | Aligned, 30.7101 |
| Business Analytics | 70 percent | CAD 15,844 | Not aligned |
Same entry bar, same fee, same campus, overlapping content. Predictive Analytics is recorded under a statistics code and qualifies. Business Analytics is not. If analytics is your field, that single difference should decide your application.
4. The 16 Programmes With No Work Permit
Since 1 November 2024, graduates of programmes below bachelor level need an eligible field of study for a post-graduation work permit, decided by CIP code. IRCC has frozen the list for all of 2026. Guelph has no degrees, so every programme faces this test with no exemption available.
| Group | Programmes not aligned |
|---|---|
| Motive power | Automotive Service, Automotive Repair, Truck and Coach, Truck and Coach Repair |
| Administration | Office Administration General, Office Administration Legal, Medical Office Practices, Health Office Administration, Administrative Business Management |
| Business | Business diploma, Business Analytics, Human Resources Management, Project Management |
| Technical | Process Quality Engineering, Drafting for Additive Manufacturing, Climate Change Mitigation |
5. The 15 Programmes That Do Qualify
| Area | Programmes |
|---|---|
| Trades | Heavy Duty Equipment diploma and certificate, Heavy Construction Equipment Operation |
| Health and social | Nursing bridging, Nursing Leadership, Personal Support Worker, Social Service Worker |
| Computing and data | Computer Applications Development, Predictive Analytics, Financial Technology, IT Business Analysis |
| Planning and sustainability | Urban Planning and GIS, Sustainable Urban Design, Sustainable Waste Management |
| Logistics | Supply Chain and Operations for Commercial Trucking |
6. All 31 Programmes by Level
| Level | Count | Entry from |
|---|---|---|
| Graduate certificates | 14 | A completed diploma or degree |
| Diplomas, two year | 9 | Grade 12 |
| Certificates, one year | 8 | Grade 12 |
By length, 20 run one year and 11 run two or more. A one year credential supports a work permit of up to one year, while two years or more supports up to three, provided the field of study qualifies. Browse every programme with its fee and CIP position on our Conestoga Guelph programmes and fees page.
7. Admission Requirements for Indian Students
| You need | Programmes | Which |
|---|---|---|
| 50 percent | 27 | Nearly everything at this campus |
| 70 percent | 4 | Both analytics certificates, Computer Applications Development, and the nursing bridging certificate |
Diplomas and certificates are entered from Grade 12. Graduate certificates require a completed diploma or degree. There is no GMAT or GRE requirement anywhere, and the application fee is CAD 100 on every programme.
8. English Language Requirements
Guelph keeps this simple. There are only two bands, and every programme accepts all four major tests.
| Band | Programmes | IELTS | TOEFL | PTE | Duolingo |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Standard | 17 | 6.0, none below 5.5 | 80 | 53 | 110 |
| Higher | 14 | 6.5, none below 6.0 | 88 | 58 | 120 |
No programme at Guelph refuses PTE or Duolingo, and none demands an unusual single band score. Broadly, the trades sit on the standard band and the graduate certificates on the higher one.
9. The Second Language Test Nobody Mentions
10. Conestoga Guelph Fees 2026
| Annual tuition (CAD) | Programmes | Typically |
|---|---|---|
| 14,588 | 15 | The most common. Diplomas, certificates and all motive power routes |
| 15,844 | 13 | Nearly every graduate certificate |
| 17,699 | 1 | Commercial Trucking Supply Chain |
| 21,882 | 1 | Heavy Construction Equipment Operation |
| 23,766 | 1 | Nursing bridging, the dearest here |
11. Cost of Living in Guelph
| Item | Approximate monthly cost (CAD) |
|---|---|
| Shared room | 650 to 900 |
| Food and groceries | 300 to 450 |
| Transit, phone and miscellaneous | 180 to 320 |
| Realistic annual total | 13,500 to 20,000 |
Guelph is a mid sized university city, cheaper than Toronto but not cheap. It hosts the University of Guelph, which means a substantial student rental market and competition for rooms each September.
12. Three Intakes a Year
| Intake | Programmes offering it |
|---|---|
| September | 25 of 31 |
| January | 20 |
| May | 18 |
Across 152 recorded entry windows, Guelph is the most evenly spread calendar of the Conestoga campuses we have checked. Missing a deadline usually costs four months rather than a year.
13. Co-op and Placements
Three programmes have a co-op option and four include a field or clinical placement. The remaining 24 have neither.
14. Can You Bring Your Family?
15. Regulated Trades and Protected Titles
| Programme | What follows separately |
|---|---|
| All six motive power routes | These are certified trades in Ontario. Certification requires apprenticeship registration and examinations through Skilled Trades Ontario |
| Social Service Worker | A protected title requiring registration with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers. A vulnerable sector check applies |
| Nursing bridging and Nursing Leadership | Neither licenses you to practise nursing. College of Nurses of Ontario registration has its own assessment and examinations |
| Urban Planning and GIS | Registered Professional Planner status requires membership of the Ontario Professional Planners Institute, normally with a degree behind it |
| Personal Support Worker | A vulnerable sector police check, immunisation records and placement clearance apply. Confirm Ontario PSW registry requirements |
16. What Other Guelph Pages Get Wrong
| Claim you will see | The actual position |
|---|---|
| “Indian PG applicants overwhelmingly pick the IT and Business Analytics graduate certificates because the longer duration unlocks a full three year PGWP” | Business Analytics is not on Conestoga’s aligned list at Guelph. Length cannot unlock a permit the field of study does not qualify for. This is the most costly error we found |
| “Tuition fees ranging from CAD 14,000 to CAD 15,000” | The actual range is CAD 14,588 to 23,766. The upper figure understates the dearest programme by CAD 8,766 |
| “Guelph Campus provides degrees, diplomas, apprenticeships” | Guelph has no degrees. The 31 programmes are 14 graduate certificates, 9 diplomas and 8 certificates |
| A description of the BAM programme and progression into “Year 3 of the four year International Business Management degree” | That degree is at the Doon campus in Kitchener, not Guelph. Campus content is being mixed up |
| “Seven campuses in Cambridge, Guelph, Waterloo, Stratford, Ingersoll, and Brantford” | That sentence names six while claiming seven, and omits Kitchener, which is the main campus. Another page says eight |
| Nothing about which programmes fail the field of study test | 16 of 31 are unaligned. No competing page names a single one |
17. How to Apply to Conestoga Guelph
Applying through the Apply Study Visa portal is free. Conestoga charges CAD 100, payable to the college regardless of outcome.
- Decide your endpoint first. If you intend to work in Canada afterwards, that removes 16 of the 31 programmes immediately.
- Within motive power, pick heavy duty. Two of the six routes are aligned, and both are heavy duty equipment.
- Within analytics, pick predictive. Business Analytics is not aligned; Predictive Analytics is, at the same fee and entry bar.
- We compare campuses on fee. IT Business Analysis is CAD 7,922 cheaper here than at Doon; the nursing certificate is cheaper at Brantford.
- We submit and guide you through the offer, deposit, attestation letter, GIC and study permit as one process.
The three costly mistakes here are choosing an automotive or truck route expecting a work permit, choosing Business Analytics on the advice that length unlocks a longer permit, and assuming a co-op is included when 24 of 31 programmes have none. Check your eligibility free, or read our Canada study permit guide.

18. Is Conestoga Guelph Good for Indian Students?
For a specific set of programmes, yes. Twenty seven programmes accept 50 percent, fees start at CAD 14,588, English requirements are simple, and the heavy duty equipment trades lead to work Canadian employers genuinely struggle to fill.
The counterweight is the sharpest of any Conestoga campus: more than half the catalogue does not lead to a work permit, and there are no degrees to fall back on.
It suits you if
- You want heavy duty equipment or construction equipment trades, where demand is real and the routes are aligned.
- You want urban planning, GIS or sustainability, an unusual and aligned cluster.
- You want health or social services, all aligned here.
- You are taking IT Business Analysis, which is CAD 7,922 cheaper than at Doon.
- Your marks are around 50 percent and you need an accessible route.
- You want a mid sized university city rather than a large one.
It does not suit you if
- You want automotive or truck and coach trades and intend to stay in Canada.
- You want business, HR, project management or office administration and intend to stay.
- You were planning on Business Analytics for work permit reasons.
- You want a degree. This campus has none.
- You need a spouse to receive an open work permit.
- You are counting on co-op. Only three programmes offer it, all optional.
19. Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Q: Are all Conestoga Guelph programmes PGWP eligible?
No. 15 of 31 are. 16 are not. Guelph has no degrees, so every programme faces the field of study test with no exemption available. Always confirm the CIP code in writing.
Q: Is Business Analytics at Guelph PGWP eligible?
No. It does not appear on Conestoga’s aligned list. Predictive Analytics is aligned, at the same fee and the same 70 percent entry. Claims that a longer analytics certificate unlocks a three year permit are wrong, because length cannot qualify a field of study that does not.
Q: Which motive power programmes at Guelph are PGWP eligible?
Only the two heavy duty equipment routes, the two year diploma and the one year certificate. The automotive and truck-and-coach routes are not aligned, despite being certified Ontario trades.
Q: Does Conestoga Guelph offer degrees?
No. The 31 programmes are 14 graduate certificates, 9 diplomas and 8 one year certificates. Pages listing degrees at this campus are describing Doon.
Q: What are Conestoga Guelph fees for international students?
CAD 14,588 to 23,766 a year. The most common figure is 14,588 across 15 programmes, and most graduate certificates are 15,844.
Q: What marks do I need for Conestoga Guelph?
Fifty percent on 27 of the 31 programmes. Four ask 70 percent: both analytics certificates, Computer Applications Development and the nursing bridging certificate.
Q: What IELTS score does Conestoga Guelph require?
Either 6.0 with no band below 5.5 on 17 programmes, or 6.5 with no band below 6.0 on 14. Every programme accepts IELTS, TOEFL, PTE and Duolingo.
Q: Do Guelph programmes include co-op?
Rarely. Three have an optional co-op and four have a field or clinical placement. The other 24 have neither. Confirm your specific programme rather than assuming.
Q: Is any Guelph certificate cheaper than at other Conestoga campuses?
Yes. IT Business Analysis is CAD 15,844 here against CAD 23,766 at Doon, a saving of 7,922. But the nursing bridging certificate is cheaper at Brantford by the same amount. Check every campus.
Q: What is the CLB requirement for a PGWP?
A second language test within two years of applying for the permit. Since Guelph has no degrees, every programme here requires CLB 5 in all four abilities. This is separate from your admission test.
Q: Can I bring my spouse to Conestoga Guelph?
Not on an open work permit. Canada restricts those to master degrees of 16 months or longer and doctorates. Guelph has no degrees at all.
Q: Does Apply Study Visa charge for Conestoga applications?
No. Counselling, application review and submission are free, including the CIP code check and the cross campus fee comparison. Conestoga’s own CAD 100 fee still applies. We are paid by the institutions we work with, which is exactly why we will tell you plainly when a programme carries a risk.
✅ Confirm before you pay. Get the CIP code in writing and check it against the current IRCC list, since IRCC decides and not the college. Within motive power, confirm you are applying to a heavy duty equipment route. Within analytics, confirm predictive rather than business. Compare the fee across all Conestoga campuses. Plan for the CLB 5 test before you graduate. Programme details cover all 31 Guelph campus programmes open to international applicants and were checked in September 2026. IRCC rules, tuition and living costs are revised regularly.
