College Certificate - Pre-Health Sciences - Pathway to Advanced Diplomas and Degrees

This one year Ontario College Certificate prepares students academically for entry into health science programs: biology, chemistry, mathematics, anatomy and physiology, communications and health related studies, delivered at the level that advanced diploma and degree health programs assume.

The program exists because health programs carry science prerequisites that many applicants have not completed, and it is the standard route for students who want nursing, dental hygiene or laboratory science but lack the required Grade 12 subjects.

Confederation College lists Pre-Health Sciences as PGWP aligned under CIP code 51.1199. Two cautions apply. First, at one year the Post Graduation Work Permit is normally limited to the program length rather than three years, and the credential falls below the two year threshold used by the Thunder Bay Rural Community Immigration Pilot. Second, the college publishes two Pre-Health variants and its PGWP table does not distinguish between them, so the applicable CIP code for this specific pathway should be confirmed in writing.

Admission per the source requires Grade 12 / High School with 50 percent, and English at IELTS 6 overall and no band below 5.5, recorded against Ontario college program code 0153.0 overall and no band below 5.5. Recorded tuition is CAD 18,105 for the year, the lowest of any credit program in this batch.

This pathway only makes sense as part of a plan. Students should confirm before enrolling that the health program they intend to progress into is accepting international applicants, has seats available in the following cycle, and that their pathway completion will satisfy its prerequisites. Progression is not automatic. Used correctly, the year converts an applicant who lacks Grade 12 sciences into a competitive candidate for nursing, dental hygiene or laboratory programs. Used carelessly, it consumes a year and CAD 18,105 without opening the intended door.
