English for Academic Purposes

English for Academic Purposes is a four month English language program that prepares international students for academic study at Confederation College. It develops academic reading, writing, listening and speaking together with the study skills and classroom conventions that Canadian college programs assume.

The program serves applicants who hold an offer or intend to progress into a Confederation credential but do not yet meet the English requirement. Successful completion can satisfy the language requirement for onward study, which removes the need to re sit a standardised test.

Work permit status must be understood clearly. IRCC excludes programs consisting only of English or French as a second language from Post Graduation Work Permit eligibility, and any program shorter than eight months is ineligible regardless of subject. This sheet therefore records no CIP code and marks the program as not PGWP eligible. Time spent here also does not count toward the two year credential length used by the Thunder Bay Rural Community Immigration Pilot.
