Program overview
The Aquaculture (Co-op) graduate certificate at Fleming College's Frost Campus in Lindsay, Ontario is a postgraduate program that prepares science graduates for careers in one of the world's fastest-growing food sectors: sustainable fish and seafood farming. Building on a prior diploma or degree, you will study fish biology and health, water quality, hatchery and grow-out systems, recirculating aquaculture technology, nutrition, and aquaculture business and sustainability. A co-op placement gives you paid, real-world industry experience. Fleming is home to a dedicated aquaculture facility and applied-research centre, so learning is genuinely hands-on.
You will learn to manage fish stocks and health, operate hatchery and recirculating systems, monitor and maintain water quality, and apply sustainable production practices. As global demand for farmed fish rises and wild stocks are pressured, skilled aquaculture technicians are increasingly sought after. Graduates pursue roles as aquaculture and hatchery technicians, fish-health technicians, farm supervisors, hatchery operators and aquatic research assistants with fish farms, hatcheries, conservation agencies and research institutions. International students gain specialised, applied Canadian experience and a credential in a niche, growing field. If you have a science background and a passion for fish, water and sustainable food production, this graduate certificate offers a distinctive and future-focused career pathway.
Beyond technical skills, you will develop the teamwork, safety awareness and professionalism employers prize, graduating well prepared for roles such as Aquaculture Technician and for long-term career growth in Canada and beyond.
