Program overview
The Blasting Techniques certificate at Fleming College's Frost Campus in Lindsay, Ontario is a specialised, hands-on program that trains you for the high-skill, well-paid field of controlled blasting used in mining, quarrying, construction and infrastructure. In eight months you will learn explosives theory and safety, drilling and loading, blast design, regulations and licensing, and the practical field skills that blasting and excavation employers require. This is one of very few programs of its kind, giving graduates a rare and marketable specialisation.
You will learn to work safely with explosives, understand blast design and rock fragmentation, follow strict regulatory and safety procedures, and support drilling and blasting operations in the field. The program emphasises safety, precision and the responsible handling of explosive materials. Graduates pursue roles as blasters and driller-blasters, blasting assistants, quarry and mine blasters, construction blasters, and explosives technicians across mining, aggregate, construction and infrastructure industries. Because the skill set is niche and in demand, employment prospects and earning potential are strong. International students gain distinctive, practical Canadian training and a specialised credential few others hold. If you want a hands-on, outdoor, high-responsibility career with excellent pay and a genuine competitive edge, Blasting Techniques is an exciting and uncommon choice.
Small class sizes, experienced instructors and extensive outdoor field work at the Frost Campus mean you graduate job-ready, with the confidence and practical skills to pursue opportunities such as Blaster / Driller-Blaster in a growing, in-demand sector.
