Program overview
The Electrical Engineering Technology (Optional Co-op) advanced diploma at Fleming College in Peterborough, Ontario is a three-year program that develops advanced skills in electrical and electronic systems, controls and automation. You will study electrical theory, electronics, power systems, motors and drives, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), instrumentation, electrical design, and project work, with extensive applied lab experience. An optional co-op lets you gain paid, real-world industry experience that strengthens your resume and professional network.
You will learn to design, build, test and troubleshoot electrical and control systems, work with industrial automation and instrumentation, interpret and produce technical drawings, and manage technical projects. The advanced technologist focus prepares you for higher-level roles than a two-year diploma, with the co-op option adding valuable Canadian work experience. Graduates work as electrical engineering technologists, controls and automation technologists, electrical designers, and instrumentation and field technologists in manufacturing, utilities, automation and construction. As industries electrify and automate, demand for skilled technologists continues to grow. International students gain hands-on Canadian experience and a strong applied credential with potential professional-technologist recognition. If you want a deeper, well-paid technical career in electrical and automation technology with the option of paid co-op experience, this advanced diploma is an excellent choice.
Small class sizes, experienced instructors and applied, placement-rich learning at Fleming’s Peterborough campus mean you graduate job-ready, with the confidence and real skills to pursue opportunities such as Electrical Engineering Technologist in a growing, in-demand sector.
