Program overview
The Occupational Therapist Assistant and Physiotherapist Assistant (OTA & PTA) diploma at Fleming College in Peterborough, Ontario trains you to support rehabilitation professionals in helping people recover movement, function and independence. Over two years you will study anatomy and physiology, conditions across the lifespan, therapeutic exercise, mobility and rehabilitation techniques, and how to safely carry out treatment plans designed by occupational and physical therapists. Hands-on labs and supervised clinical placements give you real experience working with clients in hospitals, clinics and community settings.
You will learn to assist with physical rehabilitation, support daily-living activities, set up and use therapeutic equipment, document progress, and communicate compassionately with patients and families. The dual qualification makes graduates especially versatile, since you can work in both occupational therapy and physiotherapy environments. With an ageing population and strong demand for rehabilitation support, career prospects are excellent in hospitals, long-term care, private clinics, paediatric services and home care. International students gain hands-on Canadian clinical experience and a respected health credential. The program builds the practical, caring and teamwork skills needed to make a genuine difference in people’s recovery and quality of life every day.
Beyond technical know-how, you will develop the communication, teamwork and professionalism employers prize, graduating well prepared for roles such as Occupational Therapist Assistant and for long-term career growth in Canada and beyond.
