Program overview
The Personal Support Worker – Living Classroom Stream certificate at Fleming College in Peterborough, Ontario offers a distinctive, immersive way to train as a PSW in eight months. In the Living Classroom model you learn directly within a long-term-care or community setting, blending instruction with real, supervised caregiving so theory and practice come together every day. You will study personal care, mobility and safe assisting, aging and dementia support, nutrition, infection control, and compassionate communication.
You will learn to deliver personal and supportive care, assist with daily living and mobility, observe and report client needs, and uphold the dignity and wellbeing of those you support — all while gaining hands-on experience in a real care environment. This applied, embedded model builds confidence and job-readiness especially quickly. With demand for PSWs exceptionally high across Canada’s ageing population, graduates enjoy excellent and immediate employment prospects in long-term care, home care, retirement homes and hospitals. International students gain rich, practical Canadian caregiving experience and a respected, fast credential that can also lead to further health studies. If you learn best by doing and want a caring, in-demand career, the Living Classroom PSW stream is a uniquely hands-on route into healthcare support.
Small class sizes, experienced instructors and applied, placement-rich learning at Fleming’s Peterborough campus mean you graduate job-ready, with the confidence and real skills to pursue opportunities such as Personal Support Worker in a growing, in-demand sector.
