Police Foundations

The Police Foundations diploma at Fleming College in Peterborough, Ontario prepares you for careers in policing, law enforcement and community safety. Over two years you will study criminal and civil law, criminology, investigation, conflict resolution, community policing, ethics, and the physical and communication skills the field requires. The program combines academic knowledge with practical, scenario-based learning to build the well-rounded foundation that policing and protective-services employers look for.

You will learn to understand the justice system, apply legal and ethical principles, communicate and de-escalate effectively, and approach community safety with professionalism and integrity. The diploma develops the knowledge base relevant to police constable recruitment as well as a range of related enforcement and security roles. Graduates pursue careers as police officers and special constables (subject to eligibility), security and loss-prevention officers, bylaw and enforcement officers, and community-safety workers. Please note that policing roles in Canada have nationality, residency, medical and background requirements, so the diploma also supports broader security and community-safety pathways. International students gain valuable Canadian knowledge of law and justice.
