Program overview
The Practical Nursing diploma at Fleming College in Peterborough, Ontario prepares you for a respected, in-demand career as a Registered Practical Nurse (RPN). Over two years you will study anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, nursing theory and practice, health assessment, mental health, maternal and paediatric care, and care of clients across the lifespan. The program combines classroom and lab learning with extensive supervised clinical placements in hospitals, long-term care and community settings, so you graduate with strong hands-on nursing experience.
You will learn to provide safe, compassionate, evidence-informed nursing care, administer medications, perform assessments, support care planning, and work effectively within a healthcare team. The program is designed to prepare graduates to write the registration examination and practise as RPNs in Ontario, a regulated and highly employable profession. With healthcare facing sustained staffing demand, graduates enjoy excellent job prospects across hospitals, long-term care, home care, clinics and rehabilitation. International students gain valuable Canadian clinical experience and a recognised nursing credential. Please note health programs have additional requirements and typically a higher English level. If you are caring, resilient and committed to helping others, practical nursing offers a stable, meaningful and rewarding career at the heart of healthcare.
Fleming’s supportive learning environment and emphasis on real Canadian experience help international students build both skills and confidence, opening the door to rewarding roles such as Registered Practical Nurse after graduation.
