Engineering Science: International Year One (Integrated Entry)

Do calculus and circuits excite you, even though your academic English still needs some support? Integrated Entry to FIC’s Engineering Science stream of International Year One blends English development with first-year engineering, with lessons delivered beside Simon Fraser University on its Burnaby site. The route is planned as three terms, so you can reach SFU in about a year.

You start with INTG100, the Integrated English support course, taken together with two academic courses during term one. Across the year you then work through the engineering core: CMPT135 Introduction to Computer Programming II, ENSC105 on professional writing genres, ENSC180 Introduction to Engineering Analysis, MATH152 Calculus II and PHYS141 Studio Physics in optics, electricity and magnetism, plus a breadth elective. Calculus and physics run side by side, so your problem-solving skills grow together.

Courses are built by SFU and taught by SFU-approved staff. To stay in the stream you need a 2.40 CGPA by the end of your second term, and to transfer you need a 2.67 cumulative GPA across ten courses, each passed at C- or higher. That record guarantees entry to Engineering Science, Mechatronic Systems Engineering or Sustainable Energy Engineering at SFU, where the degree includes three paid co-op terms.

Career routes include computer hardware engineer, mechatronics engineer, systems design engineer, aerospace engineering technologist, product development engineer and power electronics engineer. Integrated Entry suits students with strong science marks whose English score falls a little short of the direct requirement and who are ready to manage English support alongside a heavy maths load. You will also need a Math Check score of 26 to begin calculus.
