Environment (Bachelor of Environment): International Year One (Integrated Entry)

Why do floods, droughts and heatwaves affect some regions far more than others? You can start answering that through International Year One (UTP Stage II) in Environment (Bachelor of Environment) via Integrated Entry at Fraser International College (FIC), based on Simon Fraser University’s Burnaby campus. This route takes three terms, close to one year.

In your first term you study INTG100, the integrated English support course, together with two academic courses, so English practice happens inside real subject work. Over the year you cover GEOG104 Climate Change, Water, and Society, REM100 Global Change and EVSC100 Introduction to Environmental Science. ARCH131 Human Origins, GEOG100 and INDG101 Introduction to Indigenous Studies bring in people and place, and STAT203 adds statistics. Electives such as IS101 Global Challenges of the 21st Century are also available.

Each course follows an SFU design and is taught by an approved instructor, usually in smaller groups than at a large university. Once you complete 10 courses with a CGPA of 2.50 and a minimum of C- in each, you are guaranteed a place in second year of the SFU Bachelor of Environment. You can then pick a major such as Sustainable Business or Resource and Environmental Management, and add co-op terms.

Career options include urban planner, sustainability policy analyst, energy consultant, environmental coordinator and waste management specialist. Integrated Entry is aimed at students whose English is just under the direct standard and who would rather receive English support during their first term than spend an extra term on language study alone.
