Health Sciences (Bachelor of Arts): International Year One (Integrated Entry)

Curious about why some communities stay healthier than others? International Year One (UTP Stage II) in Health Sciences (BA) through Integrated Entry at Fraser International College (FIC) lets you explore that question on Simon Fraser University’s Burnaby campus while your English continues to develop. The programme runs over three terms, which is about one year.

Your first term blends INTG100, the integrated English support course, with two academic subjects, so language work stays tied to what you are learning. Across the year you complete HSCI160 Global Perspectives on Health, BISC100 Introduction to Biology and STAT203, where you learn to handle and interpret health data. You also choose a communication or politics course such as CMNS110 or POL100, a course like PSYC100 Introduction to Psychology I, and a writing course such as ENGL113 Literature and Performance.

SFU sets the course content and approves the instructors, and smaller classes give you more time with them. Earn a 2.50 GPA over 10 courses, passing each at C- or better, and SFU guarantees you entry to its Faculty of Health Sciences. Your studies then continue in the second year of SFU’s BA in Health Sciences, and the university runs a co-op programme for this faculty.

This degree can lead to work as a health educator, community outreach specialist, health services administrator, environmental health officer or pharmaceutical sales representative. Integrated Entry suits students drawn to public health and social questions whose English is slightly below the direct standard, and who want language support without adding an extra term to their pathway.
