Health Sciences (Bachelor of Science): International Year One (Integrated Entry)

Curious about how disease spreads or how data shapes public health decisions? Integrated Entry into Health Sciences (BSc), part of International Year One (UTP Stage II), lets you begin science study at FIC while English support continues, with classes on SFU’s Burnaby campus. The programme is intended to be completed in three terms, so transfer can follow after one year.

The first term combines INTG100, an integrated English support course, with two academic courses. Over the year you follow one of two tracks. The Public Health and Data track includes STAT203, CMPT120 or CMPT130 in computing, and MATH151 or MATH157 in calculus, while the Life Sciences track adds CHEM121 General Chemistry. Both tracks share BISC101, HSCI160 and a writing course, for example ENGL112 Literature Now.

SFU sets the course design and approves each instructor at FIC. Reaching a 2.50 cumulative GPA across ten courses, with C- or better throughout, guarantees a place in year two of SFU’s Health Sciences BSc. You can also join the SFU co-op programme for Health Sciences students once you are enrolled there. Your chosen track shapes the concentration you enter at SFU, so it is worth deciding early.

The degree prepares you for roles such as epidemiology research assistant, health data analyst, public health officer, radiologic technologist (with further training), health promotion coordinator and clinical research coordinator. Integrated Entry is a good fit for students with solid biology and maths results whose English level is just under the direct entry standard and who want to keep moving without a separate language term.
