Science: International Year One (Integrated Entry)

Are you strong in Maths and science but still building your English? Integrated Entry to FIC’s Science programme in International Year One (UTP Stage II), located on SFU’s Burnaby campus, lets you earn science credit from the first term while English support continues alongside. The programme lasts three terms, roughly one year, so you do not lose time compared with direct entrants.

Your starting term places INTG100 and ILS101 beside two credit courses, for example MATH151 Calculus I and CHEM121. After that you follow your chosen pathway: chemistry and physics with CHEM122, CHEM126, PHYS140 and PHYS141 for experimental science, BISC101 and BISC102 for life science, or programming and discrete maths through CMPT130, CMPT135 and MACM101 for mathematics. MATH152 and MATH232 extend the calculus and linear algebra that most science majors rely on.

FIC delivers courses that SFU has designed, through instructors SFU has approved. Transfer requires a 2.75 CGPA across a minimum of ten courses, with C- or higher in every pathway course. Success takes you into year two of SFU’s Bachelor of Science, in areas such as Chemistry, Physics, Statistics, Data Science, Kinesiology Intended or Biological Sciences. Co-op is available within SFU Science, and SFU Sci-Space is open to FIC students.

Possible careers include biotechnology lab analyst, statistician, pharmaceutical quality assurance associate, clinical research coordinator, electronics technician and data scientist. This route suits students whose English sits just below direct entry but whose Maths and science background is already strong. The English support is built around technical reading and writing, so it pays off directly in lab and problem-based courses.
