Program overview
The Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) – Accounting is a four-year degree built around the educational requirements of the CPA designation.
The accounting sequence runs introductory financial accounting through three levels of intermediate and advanced financial reporting under IFRS and ASPE, management and cost accounting, personal and corporate taxation, auditing and assurance, accounting information systems, and financial statement analysis. Supporting coursework covers corporate finance, business law, strategy and data analytics for accounting. The final year adds integrative case work of the kind CPA examinations use.
The reason to choose the degree over Humber’s accounting diplomas is the CPA pathway. Professional accounting designation in Canada requires degree-level study covering specified subject areas; a diploma cannot satisfy that on its own. As a degree, it is also exempt from the PGWP field-of-study restriction.
All Humber Bachelor of Commerce degrees share a common business core across the first two years: financial and managerial accounting, microeconomics and macroeconomics, business mathematics and statistics, marketing principles, organisational behaviour, business law, information systems, operations management and business communication. Specialisation deepens through years three and four, alongside a work placement.
The work placement is a graded part of the program, so you finish with documented Canadian experience and a referee rather than only a transcript.
Humber Polytechnic — formerly Humber College — is Ontario’s largest public college and a Designated Learning Institution (DLI O19376943122). The Lakeshore campus sits on the shore of Lake Ontario in south Etobicoke, next to Colonel Samuel Smith Park, and is home to Humber’s business degrees, media and creative arts, and social and community services programs. Heritage buildings, a residence opened in 2024 and a free shuttle to the North campus make it the most distinctive of Humber’s sites.
Its field maps to CIP 52.0301 (Accounting). Because this is a degree, graduates are exempt from the November 2024 PGWP field-of-study restriction that applies to college credentials. Full-time on-campus study and graduation remain the conditions, and IRCC makes the final decision.

Admission requirements
Who can apply (guide for international students):
- Education: Completed Class 12 (10+2) or equivalent with a minimum 65% overall.

- TOEFL iBT: Total 84

Ask an Apply Study Visa counsellor to confirm current fees, seats and PGWP status before applying.
