Program overview

The Bachelor of Health Sciences (Honours) – Workplace Health and Wellness is a four-year degree with a fourteen-week placement, addressing health at the organisational rather than individual level.

The curriculum combines health sciences — anatomy and physiology, epidemiology, health behaviour, mental health literacy — with occupational content: occupational health and safety legislation, hazard identification and risk assessment, ergonomics and workplace design, disability management and return-to-work programs, workplace mental health strategy, health promotion program design and evaluation, health data analysis, and organisational behaviour and change management.

The market logic is straightforward. Canadian employers carry direct financial exposure to workplace injury, absence and disability costs, and psychological health and safety has become a documented obligation rather than an optional program. Organisations increasingly hire specialists for this, and as a degree the program sits outside the PGWP field-of-study restriction.

The work placement is a graded part of the program, so you finish with documented Canadian experience and a referee rather than only a transcript.

Humber Polytechnic — formerly Humber College — is Ontario’s largest public college and a Designated Learning Institution (DLI O19376943122). The North campus in Etobicoke is its main site, running technology, engineering, health science, business and skilled trades programs in purpose-built labs and shops rather than lecture halls, with three intakes a year and the deepest employer network in the Greater Toronto Area.

Its field maps to CIP 51.2201 (Public health). Because this is a degree, graduates are exempt from the November 2024 PGWP field-of-study restriction that applies to college credentials. Full-time on-campus study and graduation remain the conditions, and IRCC makes the final decision.
